Meh, McCain has always believed that he was superior. This is a perfect example of how out of touch he is. In a perfect world this should go through the process, but the process is broken. If he can not see it from his office, he needs to retire.
He is a good example of what I would like to see from more politicians, not putting the win ahead of the purpose and long term outcome. I wish more democrats would act as McCain and of course other republicans too.
Sounds like McCain is advocating that Congress (both sides of the aisle) do the job they were elected to do. Instead we have partisan politics strictly for the sake of partisanship. And I think McCain coming face to face with his own mortality has made him look at things a little deeper......good for him (and us).
You may mock him but he knows this bill is complete bullshit and he actually proposed unity between the dysfunctional politicians we are stuck with.
If they had started an honest approach with debate and input from the floor 8 months ago, they could have passed a fully flushed out plan without a single dem having to support it. I likely would have hated that bill, but McCain and others with honor could have supported the bill. We need more openness, not less. In the end I think it would actually be more productive. Lots of politicians are trying to pull the wool over our eyes and get some pork laden bill to pass under the radar. The result is what we have now, overspending when enough pork is put in to keep many politicians happy, or gridlock.
I have two responses to this; 1. He's a politician and lying is a job requirement. A politician who never lies is not to be trusted. 2. A wise man changes his mind, a fool never does Take your pick....
