It makes a huge difference in the chances he'd get to see his son during the season. A two hour flight each way is something you can do over a couple of off days. Six hours each way, not so much.

Crabbe being cheaper was not an option. It was either match BRK's offer or let him walk for nothing (really and truly nothing). Neil (Paul, really) took a gamble that Crabbe would improve. He didn't. So, we traded him to BRK for a $12.9 million TPE. Even with the benefit of 20:20 hindsight, the options came down to not match and get nothing (actual nothing), or match, get a year of play from Crabbe and a $12.9 million TPE. You're compaining about getting nothing for Crabbe, which is EXACTLY what we would have got if we hadn't matched BRK's offer.

Last summer was a use it or lose it situation with regards to cap space. With C.J.'s extension kicking in, we were going to be over the cap this summer, and for the foreseeable future. So, it was use that cap space or lose it. Unfortunately, there were a LOT of bad contracts handed out last summer. Sure, in hindsight, we overpaid for Turner, but there were a lot of worse contracts handed out (Parsons, Noah, Mosgov, Deng, Ryan Anderson, etc.). Could we have done better than Turner? In theory, but remember the player also has to want to come here. That's what the free in free agent means. Neil went hard after Whiteside, and he later stated POR was his second choice. Neil offered him the most he could, but Whiteside chose to stay in MIA instead.

We were already over the cap when we resigned Meyers. We resigned him using his Bird Rights. We could not have offered that money to anyone else. Should we have paid him less, probably, but we didn't miss out on anyone else by signing our own player using his Bird Rights.

And I'm sure Mosgov was surprised by offer he got from the Lakers and Crabbe was probably surprised twice. Once by the offer he got from BRK and a second time when POR decided to match.

Last summer was the perfect storm for average, or even below average, players to get paid ridiculous money. With the new TV deal kicking in, it created an unprecedented, one time bump in the salary cap. There was a shit ton of money to go around, but only a small percentage of the league's players were free agents. So, a LOT of money spread among a very small amount of players. Most of the guys who got the big contracts last summer were just flat out lucky that they happened to be free agents at exactly the right time. Turner included.

I’m happy. I never thought we would get Melo anyway. I believe we can compete. We’ll need some breaks, but everybody does.

I told you guys you should move the Rose Garden down here to Oregon's city of sunshine, we get like 300 days of it as opposed to your dreary cloudy weather everyday.

At least I can go back to disliking Melo. With Melo never adding Portland to his list, despite Dame and CJ talking with him about it, he just bare-hand slapped our team in the face. I know he will be getting my boos this season.

My post you replied to was more so my disgusted response to those who wanted Melo. That's all.

Exactly. This shit is gonna be hilarious if that team blows up next offseason. It's not like OKC's ball-movement was that good to begin with. Now you add a player who loves going ISO? What could possibly go wrong?

This. But boy do they have a dearth of depth on their bench.

All 3 players in OKC likes to go Iso. They will have good starting 5 but not much after that and Melo the last 2 years he been having trouble with his knees. Houston is in the same bolt but maybe not has good as OKC but both don't have a bench. Hopefully for us that our players work there ass off to make there self better.
