If you see Dame's deficiencies on D being a symptom of needing to give more effort, I'd wholeheartedly disagree.

His effort on the court isn't bad, it's his effort off the court in terms of focusing on bettering his technique and having that translate to the court.

Stats, advanced or otherwise, do a poor job of capturing defensive contributions.

It's a catch-22. By helping out on slashers, it makes those guys a bigger threat on the glass. At worst, they're neutral factors offensively, which is a lot more than can be said of a defender of Lillard's caliber.

Which is why offensive guards and defensive bigs are the best combination.

Is this the song that Westbrook sings to himself before every game?

Going all in on a championship team is smart. Going all in on a team that can't beat the Warriors is another thing altogether .

True. However, if you give yourself a shot get to the Western Conference Finals, anything can happen. What if KD or Curry have to miss games?

I'm just not that sold on Carmelo being the right guy to make their big 3 work. Maybe he'll prove me wrong, but I wasn't sold on him for the Blazers either.

Their Big 3 is an awful lot like Damon / Sheed / Pippen circa 1999-00. I wouldn't mind seeing the same fate for them, because I hate Russ for no good reason.

Exactly at least OKC isn't wasting Westbrook's prime seasons like NO seems to be doing with Lillard.

    You mean..... not again.

I tell you one thing NO (and PA) would not have done and that was to waste both Westbrook and Durant's prime seasons by trading James Harden away after they made the finals the year before. They were set with those 3 plus Ibaka for the next decade.

I'm not so sure--okc would have kept them together if the cap was like it is now. My memory might be wrong but it was much harder paying for a big three in the old cba.
