Guns should not be available to the public. Ban them all! There's absolutely no reason what so ever why anyone needs to own a gun.
Watch.....Since this happened, security teams will check those strange bags. Of course, people have to be forewarned they will be under extreme scrutiny & surveillance when they walk in or book rooms. Ray Rice never thought about cameras and this event should have been prevented if the casino's used their camera systems to their full capacity. All the movies and real life events depicting shooters should have had swat teams thinking outside the box. I bet a few guys on swat teams have sniper experience and their command ignored the warnings. Tall buildings surrounding an event location and all the disasters occurring in this troubled country should have had the supervisors thinking preventively. The most obvious case: The Texas book depository was ignored in November 1963. The Texas university tower shooter was another disaster from the 60's as well. Finally, I'll bet The Mandalay will get sued. The enormity of this is about to change everything.
Sorry but if you're talking about automatic weapons and then you talk about AR-15s... well.... I'm going to think you don't know what you're talking about.
The few bursts that I heard over the TV broadcasts were not what a full auto sounds like. More like rapid fire in the 300 - 400 RPM rate. Short burst too, like 8 - 10 rounds so what ever the heck he was using, probably was not working as well has he wanted.
People say mental health services would have helped this man. But, it sounds like no one had a sense that this man even had any obvious mental health issues. I hope the investigation gives us some idea what set him off to plan and execute such a heinous act. Just a sad, sad situation. Fortunately my wife's family in Vegas seems to all be safe.
Does it surprise you that she graduated from Columbia? That fair minded bastion of rational thinking....
I'm tired of the gun debate. I own several guns, and it has never occurred to me to go on a mass killing spree. The problem is this country's mental health care.
Man this is a never ending debate....... but I could not disagree with you more. I respect you even though we've never met, that said, what if we just took the guns out of the equation? Could you answer me that sir? Nothing else, just that ONE question. I don't need to know HOW we do it, just want to know what you think of getting rid of them?
This thread reminds me of a John Wooden quote: “Consider the rights of others before your own feelings, and the feelings of others before your own rights.” – John Wooden
The thing is how this affects people. People die in car crashes at about 40000 per year I believe. Mandalay Bay has probably helped drive more than 58 people to kill themselves because they gambled away all their money. This shit killed a lot of people but with 350 million plus we as a whole wouldn't bat an eye. (Edit.. except for the sheer terror of it... that's why it hits home so hard) I don't think there is an easy answer that doesn't involve Big Brother.
Like the world? Just the cops have them? Just the non racial cops? Just let deer, elk and other animals suffer from disease?
Sad but the truth is more complicated than that. If there had been no gun, than it would have been a bomb. Face it, freedom can be dangerous. The price we pay for free speech is that we may be offended by what others may say. The price we pay for freedom of religion is that we can be corrupted from within. When this all shakes out, odds are that this guy was influenced by ISIS.
