The year detroit won the championship, they were not talked about as having a shot at it all. They had the sixth best record in the league. But they were on a roll after picking up a high profile power forward. Nobody took notice because their overall record was dragged down by their record the first half of the season. Their record was also worse than their point differential would indicate as they had a better pythagorean record than real record, and we all know pyth w% is the best predictor of future success. Nobody in the east was even given a shot to win the championship as the west was an absurdly dominant conference with a team that was thought of as an all time great team in the making. That's just eerily similar to this year.

^The difference is there are actually 3 really great teams in the West this year, 2 may be all time great teams, and that year there was an overhyped, and probably overrated Laker squad that didn't take Detroit seriously.Detroit a few years ago was better than they are now, and I'm not dissing the Pistons at all, but none of the West top teams are taking any of the East teams lightly.I don't think the Suns would beat the Pistons in seven if Detroit plays this well and physical, but I don't think they have enough firepower to knock off the Spurs or Mavs if either of those teams reach there.

If Detroit does win a championship this year resulting in the deju vu phenomenon, then I believe in the Matrix!

I say that nobody will beat Dallas this year. I used to always talk sh*t on the Mavs for being the Lakers' bi*ch but, they're all grown up now.

The fact of the matter is the Pistons still only have to play one of them. The rest of the West can worry about the rest of them.

You must've missed the second part of my first paragraph, when I also said that the Western Conference Representative was an overhyped and not that great team...who an underrated Detroit team took advantage of them.Detroit won't be taken lightly by any of the 3 actual Finals contenders in the West, and All three of the teams out West this year, are better than than the top teams in the West that year.

I've considered them a title contender the whole year, just an outside shot. Now they're just inside.
