I was just wondering this today:Does it matter what size high school you go to to get recruited by division 1 colleges? For example - the high school I'm going to only has about 50-60 people per grade and it's private but it is in Indianapolis and they play class 4+5 high schools so the competition is there and the stats of the players on the team are in the newspapers. Do you think it matters to college coaches what size school the kid went to for high school or if they went to a public school? Just wondering.

Well its quite obvious the bigger the school the better the competition hence better recruiting and I doubt your D1 material anyway

if somebody is good enough, they will most likely transfer to a prep school known for basketball. I know two people who did that. But if the teams you are playing against are good enough, you dont have to transfer. Usually players from Memphis just stay in that school because of the competition is very good. But in your case, they would probably transfer to where they get invited to camps and workouts etc. for collegic scouts.

If you are good enough, it shouldn't matter too much.

Nope...you won't..dude you're in like 7th grade anyway..why are you thinking about this now?if you're that good (2 PPG?) just wait until your like at the end of your junior year and apply to the colleges you want to go to and mail them tapes of you..that's the only way I could see it happening

Obviously the bigger inncer-city schools are going to be heavily recruited....but even smaller schools get recruits, there's a city 10 miles away from me in Oshkosh and they have like 1,500 kids and they have a Wisconsin recruit and a UW-Milwaukee recruit for next year. I know that a lot of great athletes from smaller schools move to the bigger schools to get noticed...etc...

Like people have already said, I don't think it matters. There are recruits ranging from small town high schools to big high school prep academies. If you're good enough, you'll be noticed and recruited. Obviously not everybody can be recruited from big name programs, but that isn't really too important in my mind.I wouldn't worry about it until you're in high school though... and if you're good enough you're coaches will know and try to call recruits and let them know about you.

It doesn't matter really. Recruiting now-a-days is very technologically based. There are numerous recruiting websites that high school players have their numbers posted on. Like others have said, it really doesn't matter the size of your school. If you are good enough, you will get noticed. The most important thing I would say is your high school COACH. Not the program itself. You want to go to a school that has a coach with connections. High school coaches call us all year about a player they feel can play at our school. If we dont know that coach, we tend not to take his word until we do some investigating. If its a coach with a good reputation, chances are that the player will be recruited.

If you play at a bigger school, the scouts would take you more seriously. 5A and 4A are the ones that are looked at the most. But hey, Al Jefferson went top 20 and he played 3A. But he also dominated like crazy....He had like over 40 and 20 a game I think.

^hahah my bad. 2 rebounds per game off. Those are amazing stats no matter what level you are at in high school. I would bet anything that his team played against alot of good 5A schools.
