Well..assuming that our high 2nd rounder (which will pretty much be equivalent to having a top 5 pick and a late 1st rounder in this deep, deep draft) takes Michael Olowokandi's spot on the roster and that they are better than Powe and Ray..who do you cut next season when it times to limit the roster to 15 players?I say that Powe stays...we can't fall in love with another below average player that comes off the bench and shows signs of being able to perform at the NBA level once in a while in RayPowe can pretty much do it all..not neccesarily at a high level but hes a solid defender, scorer and rebounderHe still has LOTS to work on but the only major problem I see with him is that he only plays garbage time and doesn't get more than 10 minutes in most games..for where he is on our roster he performs wellI remember the first game he played in he came in for about 5 minutes and got 6 points, 5 rebounds
First of all, I think we'll make a trade or two this summer as it is... we need to anyway. So, who knows how many roster spots will be available in the end. Maybe we make a 2 for 1 deal, a 3 for 2, etc. But as far as Powe vs. Ray goes, who would I keep between the two if it came down to that? Definitely Powe, without hesitation. Management shouldn't even have to think about it. Powe is a tough, strong, hard working big that always comes in and does his job: throws his body around, uses up his fouls (in a good way), rebounds, and blocks some shots. He's an all-out hustler, any team would like to have a guy like him. Ray is a hell of a shooter, he can handle the ball, and he is fairly quick... but he's not going to be anything special. Neither is Powe, but as far as team needs go, we need a strong garbage man big over an undersized 3-point bomber. In the second round, I am aware that we could land a guy like Big Baby, Sean Williams (though I don't know if our ownership would approve of that pick, due to his off-court issues), Herbert Hill, Nick Fazekas if he slips, etc. Very solid bigs. But I'd still take a serviceable big man over an undersized shooter any day of the week. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (playaofthegame @ Mar 20 2007, 12:18 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I remember the first game he played in he came in for about 5 minutes and got 6 points, 5 rebounds</div> I was at the game, and it was 10 points, 6-7 rebounds, and a block or two.
It's really a wash. When Ray's shot is on and he's getting minutes he can be very effective but then again Powe can be really tough and bother people on the inside. He was doing it to Dirk the other night against Dallas. I would rather see this team cut Telfair and I would honestly take Powe and Ray over Telfair. I think they both offer more than what Telfair does when they all get equal minutes.
Both are great in the areas where other guy isn't that great. I wouldn't mind keeping both, but if I had to choose one or the other, I'd definitely take the scrappy big man over the sharp shooting guard.
At this point, I'd keep Powe. I just think he's played a lot more better with the minutes he gets and I think he can be JUST like Jefferson downlow. Allen Ray needs to work a little more and needs to make better decisions.
The celtics already have one kid who can't play D that well, a couple in fact (gerald, telfair) we dont need another one around. in fact, ray does every aspect of the game awful besides shooting, he cant play with the team. powe on the other hand sucks in rebound after rebound when hes out there and hes a beast, I say keep powe.
I would much rather keep Powe. He is a big and he is a good rebounder. The Celtics have too many guards as it is...Ray isnt really needed. He wont play if everyone is healthy.
