Hollywood has always been judgy about things social and political, yet they've had some horrible examples of failures along those lines. Blacks went decades between winning Oscar for best actor/actress all the while Hollywood was going on and on about discrimination. It was near impossible for black filmmakers to get the kind of funding that routinely went to the same white people over and over again. The casting couch whispers were never whispered so much as spoken about out loud and routinely. Actresses frequently were done when they got even into their mid 30s when they started looking older. I'm not sure there's an industry anywhere with as much nepotism.
