I've noticed that so many people don't put too much value into scoring today because defense today is an after thought. The same argument is used against kobe and his scoring binges. I'd like to point out that statements like that are completely rubbish. Kobe is one of the few superstars who is Handchecked. The refs allow defenders to "ride" him. That's handchecking. Just look at the "elbow" he threw against krover. Krover was handchecking him.Imo, Kobe's scoring in today's league is moe impressive. That is because of zone defense. Back in the day, you were not allowed to zone or even semi double a player. If you did, it was illegal defense. You had to sent a double team or man up. Kobe Is Constantly zoned in by defenders which makes his life just that much harder. That makes stopping a defender much easier. They can also double Kobe off the ball which back in the day was illegal. Fact is, Kobe actually faces tougher defense than most superstar swingman have in history. And that is what makes his scoring binges a thing of history.edit: And it's not only Kobe. Tmac gets handchecked. Lebron's defenders at times are allowed to "ride him". In the case of tmac and Kobe, they barely every recieve perimeter touch fouls, something which a guy like dwayne wade gears his game around.
Completly Agree. Kobe is harassed on defense day in and out and is not given a break. People blame him for taking crazy shots, but sometimes he has to because the defense will literally form a wall for him to get the bucket. The fact that he does make those crazy shots, makes him an even better player.
Of course handchecking is still around. It has always been and it always will be. Alot of defenders cant keep up with star players such as Kobe and have to handcheck to keep up with them. I dislike the fact that the refs let it slide and ignore it, but I understand why defenders do it. I really dont think its that big of a deal. The NBA is a physical game, and handchecking is cheap and a physical way to play defense.
I really don't mind if handchecking is called or not. If its going to be called though, it needs to be either consistantly called, or not at all. I really don't think it should, but you can't just call it some times, on certain players, etc.

Referees treat each player differently.

P-A-S-S...PRONOUNCED: PASS.Anyway, the zone makes it better for Kobe. If they go into a 2-3 you can just pop jumpers all day...
^^ I never quite understood why everyone thinks Wade is constantly getting favorable calls on the perimeter. I guess hes that hated/bad perception. I didnt know a fianls MVP can do that. I feel for those who have to defend Kobe all the time off of stupid perceptions.Just watch a Heat game, and you will see Wade run at the rim with full force all the time and receive contact to draw fouls. Its not off of a handcheck.

It's pathetic.I'll admit Kobe would get these 2 years ago, and even last year, but he doesn't any more. At all.
