a potential constitutional crisis is what. presently, our constitution lacks a mechanism to deal with an election in which the vote tallies have been manipulated to elect a president. after the electoral college votes, about a month after the election, there is nothing written about how to decertify the results, or what the process should be, if the tampering is discovered later.http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/polit...lection/ar-AAtkZaG?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartandhp the potential for the hacking of a US general election seem to increase daily as both foreign and domestic incidents of breaches ( the voting data of 90,000 illinios registered voters for instance) seem to crop up in the news every day. Russia this, north korea that, iran this, china that. the article linked is written by a couple of yale law students and seems both current and topical in light of the most recent election's controversys.
wrong answer you want an event that truly, IMO, potentially destabilizes this country's political system, and likely lead to its', demise this is it.
I fear unfortunately more and more people will just stop voting or paying attention due to a general lack of trust in the system....not many young folks voted last election showing how poor the choices were from the start...Trump actually got 19% of the population to vote for him and that was enough
voter apathy last cycle was certainly evident. what happens though if the results need to be decertified? I can't imagine people being willing to just go along with the results for 4 years till the next election.
if its end of story, antifa/pink pussy/BLM protests on steroids with far more violence would be the more likely outcome IMO. without the mechanism to change the results anyway. imagine the nonvoter winner calling for the suppression of those protests now.
what about any executive orders or legislation he signs before the hack is discovered? what happens to those bills and actions he signs? are they null and void? are people and state government agencies required to enforce/follow the laws and actions of the central government in that event?
It sucks man. Not how I want it to be. Maybe there should be a redo on the election...but most people look content to just say fuck it and let it be. Truth is everyone needs to vote. There are to many peoole not voting because they don't care or like you said dont trust the system. The voting system needs to be secure. People need to know their vote is secure. People shouldn't have their votes not count because their race or economic standing.
all valid responses. but I am hypothetically speaking to a future election , not this one but if it were discovered and verified at this point or later in a presidents term.
if the "right" was willing to take a militant approach to the land use issues in Nevada and Oregon, would they lay down and take it if the election was stolen from them? this isn't about who won but what happens after.
could it be that the need for a resolution to this eventuality lead to other election law changes to piggyback the solution to change our county's central government to be more responsive to the people instead of beholden to their political affiliation or monied special interests? this would be my hope.
Republicans showed no apathy. Democrats soured on Obama a bit. The trend and numbers suggest no apathy at all.
The losers on one side have complained about election results and supposed tampering for the past several election cycles. None of it has panned out, just a product of delusional losers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_United_States_election_voting_controversies
sorry, potential voter apathy, as in those eligible vs. those that actually turned out. seems less voted in '16 than '08 from your chart
not a sore loser, just pointing out that our constitution lacks a clear path forward if it was to be the case. looking for solutions to an increasing threat.
No. There is well documented manipulation in past elections...and this one. Gerrymandering, voter supression based on race and economic standing. Voter purges of democratic voters. Provisional ballots need to be done away with. Absentee ballots need to be secure. Etc. There has been a lot of controversy. There is a lot of work to be done to ensure secure voting. Some dirty shit. So its not just manipulation of elections by foriegn countries, but by our own.
