For me, it's a tax problem. If we were under, I wouldn't care. I'm not sure I'd go into the repeater tax for this team until they proved they can get to the conference finals. Paying $10 mil/season to a 4th string center is generally a bad idea. Certainly, Neil isn't a fan, and he drafted him. Do you think it was an accident that Neil drafted TWO bigs?

Regardless of the hate, it's better for him to move on.

It's the new sarcastic "Thanks Obama".
    Eagle Creek fire? Thanks Meyers.
    Country music? Thanks Meyers.
A jeep cuts you off in traffic? Ok, that was actually him.

    Thanks Meyers.

How do you know NO isn’t a fan? He re-signed him to his current contract, and after unsatisfactory performance....

because he drafted 2 bigs, and traded up to the lottery to get one.

I would love to see Meyers in Vegas:

On an off day at a casino:
Roulette dealer: Would you like to bet on red or black?
    Meyers: I bet on myself.
Roulette dealer: That is not how this works son. You can't do that.
Meyers: I double it. Double money on myself.
Roulette dealer quits and walks away slowly.....

When dealing with Myle, Neil Olshey needs to take lessons from this man . . .

If it annoys you so much - just skip the thread and save yourself the trouble.
People will have different opinions than you, that's not a reason to get so emotional.

I'd argue that Leonard would be worth his current contract if he just played the way he did the season before he got that extension. 10m for a floor spacing big that averages 8 and 5 in 20 minutes, sounds about right.

Why doesn't that apply to, say, Ed Davis? He drafted 2 bigs and traded up in the lottery to get his eventual replacements, too.

I agree with you. But he was slowed by injuries. I hate to make excuses for him. He really does have to perform at some point soon.

We have an underachieving big man. He was given chances over and over again. Tiring of this, the GM decided to draft 2 players that can play his position. This does not apply to Ed Davis, or anyone else, regardless of what position they play.

You know this, so I'm not sure what you're getting at.

It's possible, but my sense is that we had Meyers and nobody else come playoffs last year. He drafted where we have the most need (and rookie scale contracts at that).

You are absolutely 100% correct, but people here would still bitch about Meyers in every game thread and constantly start irrational threads about waiving him for nothing.

That's exactly what happened when he averaged 8/5 in 20 MPG and was on a rookie contract. If they bitched about it then, they aren't going to stop now, even if he puts up comparable numbers.

It's just the way of the forum. The hatred and negativity runs deep when it comes to Meyers.

It's the way of all forums. Go to the Bears forums and see the way they treated Jay Cutler. Go to Jets boards and see how they basically referred to Geno Smith as a useless lump of shit for four years. But we aren't sitting around in our chairs twiddling our dastardly moustaches figuring out how to destroy Meyer's psyche. NBA rosters are small and in markets like this the turnover is not great. Unfortunately, he stands out and is an easy target. But I think you'd find most people like the guy and want him to suceed. It's just that passion and oversized expectations do not mix well.

Trade him and chief for Bismack Biyombo, which is admittedly a worse contract but a good consolidation move. It's insurance against Nurkic injuries, Nurkic contract negotiations, and a way for us to beat the shit out of and outrebound the other teams with a Nurk (whose shot is developing)/Biyombo/Davis/Vonleh/Swanigan frontline.

He's going to come in during blowouts when there's absolutely no pressure on him and use his size and shooting to utterly dominate other teams' garbage players. Because there's no pressure on him to perform, he's going to run up great shooting percentages.

The trade deadline comes around and suddenly a lot of GM's will see a youngish 7 footer who hits threes at 39%. There are so few guys who can say that so there's going to be a natural inclination to vastly overrate his utility in a competitive game.

He's like that stripper at the Acropolis who looks like a young Goldie Hawn at 2am in dim lighting. What happens when his new GM wakes up the next morning and realizes she's more of an old Goldie Hawn is that guys problem, not ours.

Leonard has finally found a use for the Blazers as a regrettable mistake for some other team's GM. Think of our offense in garbage time as the brass pole.

Mostly agree, but it's not obvious he won't have some sort of rejuvenation somewhere else.
