I finally saw 300 the movie. It was good.... in a mystery science theatre 3000 sort of way. It was so ridiculous and badly acted at times I couldn't help but laughing out loud, it was basically a blatantly homosexual version of LOTR the twin towers, or any of Brian Jaques' books. The only difference between this movie and your typical B movie is funding, advertising, and hype.As an action movie: FAs a comedy: A

I think people seriously overrate how good the acting is and stuff like that. While it can be annoying if the acting is absolutely horrible(I.e. movies like Epic Movie) I don't see what's that bad of average acting. All I really look for in a movie is how entertained I was and if it wasn't completely unoriginal or predictable.

300 is either a love it or hate it movie. There's no in between. I enjoyed it because I'm a fan of Frank Miller and respected the page to screen adaptation. It's been rare to see these kinds of media reflected faithfully to the screen and 300/Sin City did that. Though how it responds to an individual or audience is a different story.

Film: Spider-Man 3Date: 05/04/07Rating: 82% <span style="color:#2E8B57">(B-)</span>First off, this installment was by far the worst of the trilogy. But it wasn't bad. There are tons of flaws in the film. I generally hate the term "flaw", but when a film has upwards of a dozen different things going on at once and the dark side of Peter Parker is showcased with comedy in the majority, I struggle to find a better term. The acting was also at its weakest. Kirsten Dunst is not a great actress, but she seemed slightly uninspired with this one (although I kind of got the same vibe while watching 1 & 2 earlier this weekend). Tobey Maguire was very good as always, Rosemary Harris held together some abysmal dialog, James Franco was a tad stiff, Thomas Haden Church was surprisingly solid (heh), Bryce Dallas Howard seemed useless, Topher Grace was one of the worst casting choices in recent memory, and J.K. Simmons was flawless. All the villains were too much. I thought that the story would have worked much better if the climax would have been Peter ridding himself of Venom, Eddie Brock strung up in his desperation just like the TV series. Instead, the whole process of Brock becoming Venom happens so quickly you lose the grandeur of Spider-Man's most famed nemesis. This makes Venom seem like some random villain, with Grace's unthreatening voice not helping matters. The action scenes, while mostly enjoyable, suffer from the usual overabundance of CGI. During the first half of the film, when that crane slams into one of the skyscrapers, the visuals don't seem passable for an XBox 360 game.It seems as if the villains were secondary, Sam Raimi using them as minor anchors that in turn steer Peter Parker in yet another questionable direction. For this to actually work, you need all other factors (dialog, acting, fan-relation and acceptance) to come into place - they don't.Still, Spider-Man 3 has many redeeming qualities that make it yet another memorable chapter in a truly incredible super hero series. The action scenes are scintillating, with the final battle being one of the coolest things to hit the screen all year. When Harry dies, his face scarred and everyone's emotions running high, the movie peaks perhaps higher than its early counterparts. I'm not sure whether the decision to kill off Harry was a good thing in the long run (as "stiff" as James Franco can be, I somehow enjoy his acting a ton), but for sake of the individual movie, it was heart-wrenching. The scene on the bridge and Uncle Ben's (Cliff Robertson) death are equally impressive. So you've got tons of negatives, with a few overwhelming positives. All in all, with Spider-Man 3 being an action/adventure film, I'm not going to judge the thing on too critical a level, and that allows me to enjoy the thing for what it might be meant to be:And unabashed thrill-ride with good-hearted comedy that, through the bad, you recognize good intention.

I just saw the movie Equilibrium the day before. I'm pretty sure a lot of you havent heard of it since I dont really remember a ton of press around it. Only guys that I'd be willing to bet to of heard of it are guys like Rok and Justice. Its a sci-fi flick about cops.It stars Christian Bale,Sean Bean, and Taye Diggs. Here's a quick little plot line. "In a futuristic world, a strict regime has eliminated war by suppressing emotions: books, art and music are strictly forbidden and feeling is a crime punishable by death. Cleric John Preston (Bale) is a top ranking government agent responsible for destroying those who resist the rules. Whe he misses a dose of Prozium, a mind-altering drug that hinders emotion, Preston, who has been trained to enforce the strict laws of the new regime, suddenly becomes the only person capable of overthrowing it."Its pretty intersting, but is really similar to a lot of other works. Its like 1984, Minority Report, Farenheit 451, and just about any other sci-fi film about the future. This however doesn't make a bad film, just reusing ideas. Bale is of course great in his role as is Bean although his role is small. For those who dont know who Bean is, he's Boromir in Lord of the Rings. I'd give it a solid 7 out of 10. Definatly not a waste of time to see it. Also, anyone ever seen the "Man with no name" Clint Eastwood films? Its basiclly the films Fistful of Dollars, A Few Dollars More, and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Yes, these are weterns, but they are pretty damn good. Eastwood of course plays a bad ass gunslinger who has the quickest draw ever.

[IMG] This and Brotherhood of the Wolf. The sad thing is this movie was sold as a Matrix type film and was taken out of release two weeks into it. The gun kata and homages to like pj said Farenheit 451 to Bruce Lee made this a great movie. Too bad Whimmer followed this up with Ultraviolet.

I finally saw "The Death of a President" on DVD. For those of you who don't know it's a movie about the assassination of George Bush. It is not a good movie, but it is extraordinarily well done, perhaps the most convincing mockumentary I've ever scene; you truly couldn't tell it wasn't a real documentary. They used computer manipulation to make the real George Bush and Dick Cheyney characters, and it was an intriguing movie overall, but felt like it was lacking some sort of climax or resolution.Overall grade: B minus - it's worth seeing, but don't got out of your way to see it.

Film: 28 Weeks LaterDate: 05/11/07Rating: 50% (<span style="color:#FF0000">F</span>)The first film of this series was decent, although the camera issues are obvious. As has been stated on every internet site known to man, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo tries to make action scenes more frantic and frightening with sloppy camera work and in doing so makes much of the film almost unwatchable. The characters are also unlikable. There's no clear protagonist, but the closest competitor - Andy, is a twelve year old boy who commits idiotic crime after crime and in doing so jeopardizes everyone around him unknowingly. The plot of the movie doesn't focus on this of course - it focuses on cursing the audience with endless images of gore and useless violence. This film contains the one scene in film history I have had to look away for, and many others come close. Maybe I have a weak stomach, but the frights are few are far in between compared to the aforementioned sloppy scenes of biting, clawing, and dismembering. This film doesn't scare, it momentarily disturbs. That would normally be OK, except that it aims to frighten and in doing so contradicts itself.Minute after minute, this film just takes the viewer through boring and overdone segments of terror that one wants to end as soon as possible. Nothing about this movie is scary - it is simply laziness, overzealousness, and terrible ideas compacted into about an hour and a half.

Disturbia- BThis was definetly a solid movie overall. The ending was incredibly predictable and unoriginal but it wasn't enough to kill it for me. Minority Report- B+I watched this movie an English and I liked it a lot. I really liked the plot and the all around originality of it. This was one of the few movies I actually enjoyed seeing Tom Cruise in.
