"Freak-Out Date"

Discussion in 'Portland Trail Blazers' started by PtldPlatypus, Oct 31, 2017.

?

When is it no longer "too early" to worry about the Blazers' performance this season?

  1. Now--it's never to early to be concerned about underachievement.

    18.2%
  2. 11/18--The first 16 games are the easiest part of the schedule. Bad play early is a BAD sign.

    10.9%
  3. 11/27--21 games is over a quarter of the way through the season. That's a big enough sample.

    23.6%
  4. 12/23--33 games before Christmas, 40% of the season. That's plenty for evaluation.

    23.6%
  5. 2/14--Nothing in the NBA season really matters until after the all-star break.

    12.7%
  6. 4/11--Wake me up when the playoffs start; we're a lock to be in them anyway.

    0.0%
  7. Other--I'm not beholden to your poll! I'll pick my own freak-out date, thank you very much!

They're talking about this on 750/102.9 (Justin and Devon--fantastic local show), and I thought it would be good to put this out here in the forum as well.

We're 7 games in, and we've already seen threads (mostly from @Portland2014) about Lillard, Nurkic, Stotts, Olshey, the bench, etc...and there will probably be more. Many say it's "too early", others disagree. So, when is it no longer "too early" to be concerned about the way the Blazers have played to date and whether or not the season is going to be a disappointment?

The quarter pole is a good enough sample to judge by. Sure any team can get hot or slump from there, but you should have a pretty good idea of what to expect from that point forward.

We gonna lose to Utah, win lakers and lose to okc. After this I think we should replace Stotts before Christmas

We lost a road game against a tough team by a bucket.

We lost a home game against a tough team by a point but were fucked by the officials.

We got blown out at home.

We've won the other four games.

We've pretty much played like shit every game.

We have one of the youngest teams in the league.

    Not worried.

    Not.

    Swayed.

So, we are seven games in, playing garbage teams, yet the team is displaying the same poor play style that has made us a sub par team, with an unwatchable lack of flow. After years of watching piss poor play, yeah, seven games is enough.

Dunno, man..a team becomes deaf to what the coach is saying after a few years, I am leaning towards blowing this team up and retooling. If that has to start at the GMs position as well as the coach, so be it.

Understandable. I'm in the same boat. I'm not even really all that concerned (though annoyed/frustrated) about last night's loss because that kind of 2nd quarter performance (1/19?!) is more fluky than indicative of anything, IMO. But the question isn't really "is it reasonable to be worried now?" so much as, "If (since) it's too early now, when is it no longer 'too early'?"

Care to hazard an opinion thereupon?

The Blazers have the same number of losses as the Warriors. Think Warriors fans are freaking out yet?

The Blazers don't have their shit together yet, but it's too early to get too nervous about it. That said, they do need to start showing signs that they're getting into their offensive flow soon.

I'm not one to freak out. If we fall out of the playoff race, then I'll worry.

They needed to get off to a hot start due to how easy their schedule is and how many game are at home. They loss to the Clippers was the only game I had them winning that they have lost but once TOR had their C and PF sit, I switched that form a "pick em" to a W. So they are 4-3 instead of 5-2 or 6-1 but it's more HOW they are playing versus wins and losses. The weren't good against either PHX or NOP even thou those were wins. Both teams were missing studs in Bledsoe and Davis and we still struggled with them....at home.

Losing to MIL is no shame as Giannis is one of the best in the league. A double-team on the one guy that is tearing you a new one might not be too much to ask but that is still a good team and you are playing on the road. Losing to the Clips after Paul has left and the Raptors at home when Jonas and Serge are out is very poor indeed.

Our major point of concern is 2P%. We are between Chicago and Dallas in 2P%, which is smack dab in the middle of "total dumpster fire" territory. Some smoking hot 3-point shooting is saving us, but until we get an identity inside of 23 feet, we are going to lose games we should win.

This team had no chance at winning a title this year, so there is zero reason to freak out

Two things......1) In my opinion, 1/4 of the season is the point of the season where you have had enough home/road games to get a true feel for the team...... and B) what MM said is correct! Why would you be freaking out if you put the proper expectations on this squad from the beginning? I hate when people say, "I told you so", but....... When you think this collection of talent will finish 4th or better than Houston and the SPurs like some said, of course you would be freaking out after this start, why wouldn't you. But when you take a sec and look at this team as a hovering around .500 team, this is about what you expected. You see it coming every season with a lot of members on here. Set yourself up for a let down EVERY time! Thinking Swan and Collins were going to be major contributors for example. It is still #TooSoon and I hope to be proven wrong, but I think this first 2 weeks will be our season in a nutshell. #GoBlaze

Did you expect Dame, Nurkic, and Harkless all to be shooting 40% or worse on the season?

How come there isnt an " ALREADY FREAKED THE FUCK OUT" Option?

Some people would fall under that one no doubt. ;)

At any rate, m not beholden to you... ;)

The first poll option is "Now". I'd think that "Already FTF out" fits into that option.

And if you think you're too good for my options (BTW, I've met you, you're not...), why don't you tell me what you would pick?
