What system did you like watching better, the old Detroit team that played incredible defense and held teams to 60 points or the high powered Suns who basically just outscore every team they play? Some people say that the Suns system is ruining basketball but I've also heard the Pistons played dirty to achieve their defense.
First of all, people get physical play mixed up with "dirty" play. Nowadays, if you box out your man and push him back with you're body, players cry about it. Detroit plays physical and they play excellent defense. Playing physical and playing dirty are two TOTALLY different things, and I think a lot of people get the two mixed up way too often. I just had to clear that up.Also, I'm surprised that nobody has commented in this topic so far, I think it's a great topic and very interesting. It is pretty tough. Of course we all love the flashy plays and the highlights. We love the pushed tempo. However, I'd rather watch true basketball being played at both ends of the floor. That is why it's so tough. We all love the entertainment, we all love the fast paced excitement, but you HAVE to love watching good defense and good plays set up in the halfcourt as well. There is no way I can sit here, especially as a die-hard Celtic fan, and say that I don't appreciate a running team. All 16 banners, all running. But I guess I would say that I "appreciate" watching Pistons basketball more than Suns basketball. Why? Smarter play, better decision making, and most importantly... DEFENSE.A lot of people say that they think Detroit and San Antonio are "boring." I don't understand that. Everyone has their own opinion, I respect that, but I just don't understand how people fail to appreciate the way the Pistons and the Spurs play. I don't understand it, and I never will. That's like someone trying to tell me that 2 + 2 is 5... it's just "NO."I like a more balanced attack, such as the Houston Rockets. They play excellent team defense, they do score in the half court, but they can turn it on when needed.
I love watching the Suns and high scoring games are my favorites right now. There are just so many jaw-dropping moments in every game. I can enjoy any type of team play though. I really like watching a good, low-scoring, defensive struggle also.

Only exception is when both teams are just playing all around sloppy, thats not even worth looking at. But seriously, I was watching the Pistons - Spurs game today and I never got bored a single second of watching Duncan play. Good call with the Rockets though, Yao's been playing well and T-Mac can score 40 any given game, plus the fact their defense it arguably top 5 in the NBA.
The Spurs and the Pistons (2+ years ago) are boring to watch... period. Pure basketball or not, watching two teams screw around for 48 minutes and only scoring 160 combined points is BORING.

I think anyone who thinks a halfcourt game is "boring" is ignorant on some levels.
For watching easily the Suns, Warriors, Wizards type of tempo. However if I were a fan of the team I would much rather us be a defensive machine that way our D doesn't go into cold spells. When you're an offensive juggernaut you live and die by the jumper and that is one of the shakiest things to rely on.
^This is why I like the Mavs style of play. They get up and down the court, and play some beautiful half court offense and defense as well.I don't prefer one system over the other...but I like teams that can play both ways.
I've always wondered why people say defense doesn't go through "cold streaks" when it is obvious that it does indeed happen. As far as which I enjoy more I agree with MM in that the best form of basketball is a contribution of offense and defense.
I love both, but I do really wish more more NBA teams played excellent Defense. That along with Players being thugs is 2 reasons why people say they hate the NBA.
I like the defensive play, where they can score maybe 100 points and totally shut down the other team. The fast-paces is fun to watch too, but for some reason it seems kinda cheap. I know it's not, it's just how I feel when I see it.
I like any kind of basketball, but theres nothing I love more than a gritty, tough, 85-84 defensive ball game. Fast paced stuff is wicked fun to watch, I love seeing my team put points on the board, but it feels better, IMO when you see your team grit one out on the defensive end rather than just outscoring their opponent.
I prefer the high octaine, physical D. That is why I like college wayy more than the NBA. As a matter of fact, I can not watch a neutral game on TV. Ex. Suns-Mavs. Great teams, just can't watch. Find it extremely boring.
