LOL. Hated the guy for years as a coach, but I have to admit, I've enjoyed listening to him as an analyst (painful as it is to admit). But please NOOOOO!
Honestly, why not? If Jonathan Smith says no, may as well go for an older guy and see what he can do. Maybe build something up for one of his young coordinators he may bring in? If I'm the Beavs I'd be worried to get an up and comer, cause if that young guy turns it around B1G/SEC schools come calling after he wins 8/9 games.
Jonathan Smith won’t even make the final cut. It will come down to Cory Hall, Beau Baldwin, and someone we haven’t heard about yet.
Beau is a good offensive mind. But what the Beavs need foremost is a big time recruiter. They have had good coaches in the past, but they need someone who can sell a vision to top athletes, and who can identify good recruits who fly under the radar. Slick Rick can sell...and play the guitar
Slick Rick fizzled out at UCLA and hasn’t coached in 6 years, not sure why he would be able to come back after the time off to a more difficult job and do better. But I agree with your sentiments. Cory Hall is a stud recruiter with a ton of buzz about him. I’m in the camp of hiring him for around 1.5 mil and spending a shit ton of money on a proven supporting cast who can recruit. Beavs are adding another 6 mil to the football budget after this year, a lot of that includes increasing money towards a new staff. Pay a guy like Jedd Fisch a mil to be the OC and bring KHJ back home to be the DC. The college football coaching landscape is trending heavy towards the PJ flecks and Dabo Swinneys of the world, a great leader of young men who provides an exciting face of the program. It’s more and more about Jimmys and Joes then it is about X’s and O’s.
