That's what I always thought, but he's made some insanely boneheaded plays lately. Awful outlet pass last night that killed our momentum and gave them a layup, had a play at Utah where he refused to dive for a loose ball... He's been pissing me off on levels I thought only Meyers Leonard could.
The silver lining if Lebron leaves: Crowder will be available. He hasn't really gotten much of an opportunity in CLE so far so he can be had on the cheap, and has a great contract.
Trade Moe for Covington who the Sixers may want to deal before they get nothing for him in free agency. Show him he’s the perfect fit here and give him a taste of real playoff basketball while also giving us the chance to go over the cap to resign him this summer. He was all defense 3rd team, is in the top 5 for 3pt percentage this year and is the perfect age range for our squad. One of the most underrated players in the league imo.
I don't think Sixers would ever consider a trade like that. It's not even close. Covington >>> Harkless
Oh no question Covington is the much better player, but if they think they can’t resign him this offseason then they might (should) be willing to part with him.
Harkless has been the major disapointment of the start of the season for me. I just feel he cold average like 10 on decent shooting% while playing great defense, but he's just not giving constant effort.
Harkless is useless. Gettin really frustrated with his game. He's not even trying to shoot anymore. We need to upgrade his position asap.
Certainly true. Until that happens, since we are getting almost nothing from that position, why not give Layman a shot? Stotts refusal to try anything outside his robo-substitutions, two-play offense, and switch everything on defense is just damn annoying.
Layman is trash, man. Hardly an upgrade. I bet there are some G League players who are more hungry than any of these guys on our team who would not hesitate to take 10 shots a game. Hell, Gerald Green is still without a job
I'm not saying Layman is any great shakes, but at least give something else a try when what you are doing isn't working. Layman does have a better handle, is a better passer and from a eye ball test, has a better shot that just doesn't go it even though it looks good almost every time. To continue to do the same thing over and over again expecting a different result = the definition of insanity.
I'm not convinced he is trash but the way he has played most of his career is certainly not that of a starter on an NBA Playoff team that is any threat to go anywhere.
Harkless is a player that even a championship team would love as their 7th or 8th guy. Just not as their 4th. But really, the state of the NBA, as it is right now, there are not a crazy amount of good SFs. So finding an upgrade isn't actually all that easy.
Harkless is far from a trash player, just because he has had a bad start to the season does not make him a waste of a spot. I'm not sure whats up with Moe but he does not look comfortable on the court and looks lost a lot of the time, which in a very simple flow offense is very concerning. It certainly looks like Moe took those trade rumors a little to much to heart and is pouting but who actually knows what is going through his head, he isn't playing well which is very apparent to all. Moes got a shot to steal the 3 spot for the foreseeable future but he is just letting it go to waste, the kid needs to wake up before this opportunity slips through his hands.
Our upgrade is currently sitting on the bench injured, no reason to rush to find a better one when a better one will be healthy soon.
Aminu has always played much better as a stretch 4 than a true SF. He is not an upgrade over Harkless last year. Over Harkless this year? Possibly. But not enough of one to get us out of 1 and done imo. Aminu ideally should come off the bench so he can play either SF or PF behind both our starters imo.
I like Aminu as a stretch 4 better as well but i'v got faith Moe figures it out and becomes at least what he was last year and until that happens Aminu would work at the 3 just fine. The SF position in the league isn't a deep position and I just don't know where an upgrade exists that is attainable and wont just create another big hole in the roster to attain a SF.
Yet, teams are finding gems from unconventional places. Like Bogdanovic in Indy was a FA pickup who is a gunner who plays smart. Or Utah picking up a terrific defender and shooter in Thabo for scraps. Or Ingles who they picked out of the weeds in Australia a few years back. How about Jonathan Simmons in SA last year who's still ballin in ORL this year? We need to unearth these guys. Is Moe even a top 50 wing player his season?
So you play Layman, who would probably be downgrade or stay with a guy that just does not want to play here. Either way we got a hole on SF and Olshey should try to fix it. Matt Barnes is bit better hustle player than Heartless. He's old, but we don't run fastbreaks anyways, we could be bad boys as Nurk said before, he's got some exp as well. Just sayin.
