A top member from another site posted this statistic to fire back at this hater that writes for the Kansas City Star. Here is his post:<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Read your latest about Kobe, and how much you would prefer to watch Phoenix because they are playing ?Team Ball.? You might consider actually watching games before commenting on them, instead of just reading box scores.I thought you might find it interesting that over the past four games of Kobe's 50 point streak, the Lakers assist average is 26.75 assists per game. Over the Suns last four games? They are averaging 25 assists per game. So who is playing better team ball? The fact is, The Lakers ARE playing team ball. They are just marshalling their resources differently. Fact is, Kobe is shooting better than 50%. The rest of the starting five are all well below that percentage. If you have a rifle and a water balloon, which should you use to take a shot? Why should the Lakers tell him it is better to let Smush or Evans or whoever take the shot if they have a lesser probability of going in?And since Kobe is no longer facilitating the offense (Odom and Walton are) isn?t his playing off the ball and getting it in a position to score exactly what you are telling him to do? Really, you should watch a game sometime, and see just how hard Bryant works every possession to get position on his defender(s). It?s unlike anyone else in the game. Stop relying on box scores - they only tell a small part of the story. One more thing, David - Lakers are currently ranked 7th in the NBA in assists per game. That is higher than San Antonio (9th), Detroit (13th), Houston (16th), Miami (19th) and your favorite, Dallas, who are currently 23rd in assists per game. Shocking, isn?t it - with a point guard named Smush.</div> Awesome Stuff. :happy0144:
Those are some eye-opening statistics right there, but I just found it ironic that he's telling the writer not to look at box scores by using stats to back up his argument.

But are Laker fans really gonna go around and brag about a 1.75 assist difference?</div>The point is not to brag. Just to use this as ammo when people say the Lakers aren't playing team ball with Kobe playing at such an amazing level.

The difference is still pretty amazing. Is it not? The Lakers are not only averaging around the same amount of assists as the Suns, they are averaging a bit more. And this is all happeing with Kobe scoring 50 points. Why are you downplaying this? The Lakers are averaging the same amount of assists as Phoenix, a team run by Steve Nash, with Kobe dropping over 50! The whole point is that the Lakers are not just a one man show. They are passing the ball very well and looking for eachother out there as well as Kobe. Luke and Lamar coming back had alot to do with it. It's an amazing stat if you think about it.Also, are saying the Lakers don't play "controlled basketball?" lol...they run the Triangle offense...one of the most controlled set systems in the nba.

I think it's amazing they're ahead of the Suns. It's impressive. But being ahead of the other teams you mentioned is not amazing.
not all assists are created equal.A steve nash assist is usually a higher degree of difficulty than an assist passing to a guy who's scoring 50 ppg on 55% shooting
Why are Lakers fans always bitching about how good Kobe is, how everyone hates him, how he's the best player in the league, on and on and on. It seems like you guys just bring up the hating kobe crap more than the people that actually do hate him. I don't hate him, he's a great player and one of the best in the league, but I'm sick of seeing Kobe threads.

Who's bitching anyway? This was a response to an actual proclaimed Kobe and Laker hater. This Laker fan basically owned him with this post.

Can we just keep some of these Kobe/Lakers threads in the LA board and not flood the General board...it's getting annoying. I don't post every happening of the Milwaukee Bucks with you guys.
To be quite honest the Lakers haven't really been playing team basketball during this four game stretch. Most of the scoring has come from Kobe going one on one. Since they were coming off a 7 game losing streak where they were playing team basketball, I'd say it's been a good decision to have Kobe control the scoring, but to say the Lakers are playing great team basketball isn't quite true.

Toronto fans 'bi*ch' about Bosh, Celtic fans 'bi*ch' about Rondo, and every team has the right to 'bi*ch' about players that show a light at the end of the tunnel for their team. Anyways, Laker fans have every rigth to bi*ch about Kobe, hes playing amazing.
