I think Vonleh is just getting started on showing us what he has been working on over the summer. My biggest problem with him is that he needs to be reminded to be aggressive way too many times. He definitely fits this team, 1st or 2nd unit. If he can start hitting a few shots along with all the rebounding and solid picks he sets he will be a huge asset and maybe the best PF on this team. If we worked the pick and roll with him like we do with Nurkic he may be a double double machine whether he starts or comes off the bench. I won't go into his defense, it speaks for itself.
The only thing holding Noah back is what's going on in his head. And even then, it's only been holding him back on offense - last season I was saying he was already our best overall defender. Good to see that he might be starting to play with some strength and confidence on the offensive end! Last season he got stuffed around the rim way too much for a guy and big and powerful as he is. With his body he could rule the NBA - hopefully he does next season, after we sign him to a sweetheart deal! If he ever comes into his own he could be a mix of Amare/Sheed!
I remember writing the day we got Vonleh that he doesn't force it and plays within himself. I watched him a lot at IU and this is kind of what you get with him. He was more efficient at IU and that's why I think he'll eventually develop into a double double guy. He has shooting ability and post skills, he's just not being asked to develop them within the framework of the game. One thing I think Stotts should do is encourage Vonleh to be more aggressive with the second unit to become more confident in executing on his skillset - this also means running plays for him. He has it in him.
Noah is a perfect fit next to Nurk....I like him...strongest lower core on the team...does not get pushed aside like ever
