Are 99% of cops good cops? Looks like 100% of THESE officers are bad...

An LAPD officer accidentally filmed himself putting cocaine in a suspect’s wallet

Police officers can’t seem to stop filming themselves potentially planting evidence.

The latest incident comes from Los Angeles, where an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) accidentally filmed himself placing cocaine in a suspect’s wallet, according to a new report by CBS Los Angeles.

The body camera video shows police picking up Ronald Shields, who was charged with felony hit-and-run, having a gun in the trunk of his car, and cocaine possession in April. The police report claimed cops had found the cocaine in Shields’s left pocket.

The footage tells a different story. LAPD officer Gaxiola, as CBS Los Angeles identified him, picks up Shields’s wallet from the street and shows it to another officer who then points to Shields. Gaxiola then puts the wallet back down, picks up a small bag of white powder from the street (which later tested positive for cocaine), picks up the wallet, and puts the bag in the wallet.

The audio turns on, signaling that the officer had manually activated his camera to record. Then, the officer shows himself supposedly finding the wallet and the drugs inside of it, and repeatedly telling other officers about it. “Just to let you know, sir, inside his wallet, he has a little bag of narco,” Gaxiola said.

So what happened? The simple explanation is that the officer apparently did not know that when he switches on his body camera, it automatically records and saves the past 30 seconds, although without audio.

Shields’s lawyer claims that the officers outright planted the drugs to frame his client.

It’s possible, though, that the cops tried to reenact the act of finding the cocaine for the cameras. But that is still very deceptive — and when so clearly caught on video, it makes it hard to trust the police officers with just about everything else they’re doing. It makes a potentially credible case lose all credibility.

The LAPD is investigating the incident. “The LAPD takes all allegations of misconduct seriously and, as in all cases, will conduct a thorough investigation,” it said in a statement.

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Previously, Baltimore police officers were caught doing thistwice. That led the local prosecutor to drop dozens of cases involving the officers.

According to CBS Los Angeles, this is the first time that the media has seen LAPD body camera footage since the force launched its program two years ago. It’s one hell of a debut.

No one in here knows 99% of the police force so get the FUCK outta here with that 99% of cops are good cops bullshit. Cops say:

    "see something, say something".

Well, they see their cohorts doing shit all the time and they don't say ANYTHING.

I've had cops lie in court about what I did so I feel you. However, I still believe the vast majority of them are good dudes. Maybe I'm naïve?

Do you know them all? We know the answer to that. Are 99% if humans good people? Don't answer that. Does 21 weeks of police academy (16 weeks in Oregon) change what you believe socially? No reason to answer that one either.

    Wow... That's really fucked up...

Why? Why do you believe this? Maybe you just want to. :dunno:

I think it is naive to think that after 16 weeks, people are going to change their stripes.

Frankly, if you're okay doing a job that is essentially taking money out of the hands of good citizens to fund your organization, then I question your morals.

    They're revenuers.

That's completely leaving out any of the flat out corrupt or bad cops that abuse their power. I'm talking specifically about the job as it currently is. They exist to generate revenue to continue to grow the government.

I wouldn’t say 99 percent of cops are good but I also wouldn’t say a majority are bad either. Don’t know why you’re so angry about this

Anecdotal evidence of cops planting drugs on folks has existed for decades. Body cams are starting to show some cases. It happened in Baltimore earlier this year.

Also, on the subject of how many "bad cops" there really are... consider this, which appears to be more relevant than ever.

The counter argument would be, do you know 1% of all police officers? No? Then how do you know its NOT true?

I'd say statistically cops should be worse than average in morality compared to any other profession. Too attractive a position for those that seek power over others. It is common sense IMO.

My cousin is a Multnomah County Sheriff/CO. My other cousin is a police officer in La Grande. Both good people. One went from Crip to Cop.

Also, where are you getting "majority are bad" from? I never said anything like that. Then you go and assume how I'm feeling about it. You need to stop doing this bruh...

I feel, though I've never been part of a police force, that police officers (and I'll throw judges in there, as well) hold far too much power over your life

I mean, spending the majority of my life in uniform, I constantly undergo screening, training, periodic clearance updates, yearly fitness reports, etc. and am held to a pretty strong set of regulations and laws (The Uniform Code of Military Justice is much more strict than standard US Code). And I can't even arrest someone, impound someone's car, assess fines, etc.

AFAIK, police officers and judges are not held to similar standards, which TBH should be much tougher if they hold those powers over us.

The standards to become a cop are disgustingly low.

I like to argue your over reaction posts with my own over exaggeration posts simply because i find the irony hilarious when your posts try to bring stuff back to reasonable.

    Did i do that right?

There are certainly some bad apples out there. You've stated you disagree that we are all inherently evil, so who do you think are the good people? What makes someone inherently good? Is it that they vote democrat? Or is it deeper than that? Should we have only black police? Then whitey couldnt abuse his power. Or would cops then be reffered to as uncle toms, like most of my coworkers get called regularly? It's almost as if racism isnt an isolated problem... but then you've also expressed that a minority can not be racist? Does that mean in africa that all black people are racists against white people because white people are the minority?
