Boris Diaw played center last year at like 6'8-6'9. So what?</div>He is not overrated he is as good as people say. Sure this year he may not have played up to what some think he should have, but also some expected to much also I think.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (RaptorFan#1 @ Mar 26 2007, 02:37 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>My question is, is the DPOY decided on the 1 on 1 defensive plays, or the general player's contributions to defense? Emeka Okafor may not be excellent defensively one on one, but he's a force to certainly be reckoned with down low. Ron Artest is a good one on one defender, but is not much of a shotblocker as Okafor is.</div>Emeka Okafor is a very good man to man low post defender, he has been able to stop a great many of the players. You should know that from when the Bobcats and Raptors played, and he shut down Bosh all the way till half way through the third quarter. Bosh was scoreless until Emeka Okafor got hurt that game. He is a top two or three low post defender in my eyes.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (CB4AllStar @ Mar 26 2007, 05:42 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Stats only give away a small portion of a player's defense. Stats do not tell the whole story. Jermaine O'Neal is NOT the 2nd best defensive player in the NBA. Those averages aren't even 2nd best in the NBA, and blocking shots is the thing he does best defensively. I bet you NO voters for DPOY would put him 2nd. You probably just looked at Blocks and Steals to make your list [IMG] That's not what defense is mostly about. It's about shutting down your oppenent, and preventing him from driving, and challenging all his shots, and preventing him from getting easy baskets inside. That kind of stuff DOES NOT show up on the stat sheets, and that's what defense is mostly about.</div>He might not be the 2nd best defensive player in the NBA, but he is a top man to man defensive player down low. He plays very good man to man defense, is a smart defensive player, can get blocks. He is easily amongst the top of the low post defenders.

I'm going with Shane Battier. He is such a good basketball player, I don't care what his stat sheet says. You look at what he's done for the Rockets defensively this year, it's great. For that long stretch without Yao, especially. That team stuck together and kept on winning a lot of basketball games. Sure, give Tracy McGrady credit too, obviously. He's a GREAT player, but Battier's defensive abilities and consistency has kept that team together. With that said, I hope Bruce Bowen gets it. I think it's absurd that a guy like him doesn't have a Defensive Player of the Year trophy, in the same way I'm baffled that Kobe doesn't have an MVP trophy yet.

I totally agree he has helped the Rockets tremendously this year and deserves some recognition.
