You can have a trade Cj thread but if someone just suggested Lillard instead it’s “no words”

Ppl hate on Cj here when he’s close to being a 50-40-90 player every year but Lillard shoots 39% from the field and 31% from 3

    Happy thanksgiving to u too

I don’t want to trade either one, especially for a package of Okafor and Reddick.

Did it ever occur to you that the reason Dame’s percentages are off isn’t because he’s somehow forgotten how to shoot, but rather because the other shooters (other than CJ) are so bad that Dame has to take more contested shots?

CJ is a tremendous scorer but passing and defense are part of the game as well.

Even if you hate lillard, that's a horrible trade for us given that Okafor is a high risk, and Redick, while still good, isn't going to help out enough to be equal to Lillard.

You do deserve flack for this for the mere reason that it isn't logical, and looked to cause a reaction. Don't go into victim mode when you set yourself up to be that victim.

Well, like BBert said, CJ is good. He may be a better pure shooter than Dame. That said, most of the time he’s on the court he’s playing 2 guard and doesn’t have the added responsibility of running the offense. I don’t have the stats to prove it, but I suspect he’s the beneficiary of more kick-outs for open 3 point shots than Dame is. Probably the biggest difference, IMO, is that he doesn’t take as many “bad” shots as Dame does. I think Dame feels the responsibility to try to take over games at times and lofts a few too many long shots early in the shot clock. Dame’s the leader and he sometimes takes chances with shots that can rev the team up if he makes them. It leads to a lower shooting percentage.

I don't know if they would leave or not, I know Redick earns $20M a year and is worse than CJ and Okafor has no value, Phila did not even want to extend him for another year. And even if they extend, you don't know this at the moment and you are trading a star player with 4 years on his contract for two players who MIGHT leave the very next Summer, and both of them are considerably worse than him. That's extremely poor value.

Hell, I wouldn't even want Redick to extend if he came here, to be honest. If you offered to trade CJ for an expiring LeBron, Embiid or even an expiring Cousins or George, I would consider this for sure, because we would be getting a better player who might extend here, or at least play half a year at a high level and maybe have us compete. Trading for Okafor and Redick you get two players who are much inferior and not even certain to stay. It would be like Magic trading Tobias Harris for Jennings and Ilyasova, although ten times worse.

I'm in agreement. How far can your team really go if Dame and CJ are your best two players? 51 wins? 52? You maybe make the Western Conference Finals one season if injuries really fall our way. Seems like a real waste of Dame's prime years.

Especially with Napier coming on strong, we really have scoring at the guard positions way too over-covered, and a real dearth of talent of guys at 6'7-6'9 who can switch, which is where the league is headed.

I don't have an ideal target in mind. But CJ is our only really valuable trade piece, and I don't think it's at all controversial to look at the options.

To me, that’s like saying your transmission is better than your engine.

Edit: To take the analogy one step further, it’s like arguing that your transmission is better than your engine when the real reason you’re not competing is that your tires are under inflated, which is causing your engine to work too hard as it tries to compensate.

So after 1 month and almost 10 pages of zero good ideas that would make our team better (Other than a couple of the unrealistic ideas like Simmons) what does that tell us? It tells me to keep one of our few good shooters and maybe focus on a different position. Stealing from Peter to pay Paul rarely works out well.

This season will be frustrating but I think we stay patient with Dame, CJ and Nurk (and 2 of our young PF's) and try again to land that elusive scoring SF. It is our best chance.
