Orion I think you and 99% of the posters on this board really are good, well intentioned people. I understand exactly what you are saying but believe me, we pull up our "Big Boy Pants" and let the superficial stuff go all day everyday day. I'm a successful college educated property owning woman... I know all about going along with the corporate program and letting things go. But I post my perspective because I want you to educate on my reality (and any other person who isn't the right race, religion, sexual/gender identity, etc.). I'm not angry feminist at all... I just think you guys on the board are so awesome and evolved you will take my wise input, commit to doing better, and make yourself even more irresistible to the ladies.

Yes but it goes back to the power dynamic. I remember years ago a Native American High school back east tried to make a point by changing their mascot to the fighting whities and their T-shirts were sold out and people from all over the country wanted them. I think it is much more important what the lady is doing, potentially falsifying her history for personal gain, than the president calling her pocHNtes. To me the true racial discrimination was potentially falsey claiming. Heritage that isn’t yours for better personal gain. To me that is much more dangerous to let go than the president calling her Pocahontas. Then there are even more legit and real concerns for me that trump(lol) racial slurs. Like nuclear threat. Civil unrest. The thieving homeless epidemic. Many many things I would think would take a higher priority to fix.
Well you missed the point then... I was not using the term against my friend in anger. My post was about taking a "negative" word, turning it around, and owning some of the positive traits about that word (like speaking up for yourself). I agree with you about using the word in anger against someone... it would make me just as guilty of perpetuating that negative stereotype.
