I sincerely hope the Ducks can retain their O-Coach and their D-Coach as Head and Associate head coaches.
I loved “Quizz (what’s not to love about a short little fireplug who could carry 3 monstrous linemen on his back at will for extra yardage? Props also to Mike Hass as a favorite) but Smith was so much fun to watch. He was the Energizer Bunny who could get buried in a pile of tacklers and still pop out the top and keep running. He also had an uncanny ability to heave passes blindly over an onrushing wall of very tall lineman and still hit his receivers with pin point accuracy. BG and I met Smith (a year or two after he graduated) at the Reser tailgater celebrating the opener of the “new” Reser Stadium, where he, Erickson and several other Bears were honored for their role in bringing OSU back from the grave. Smith was so incredibly humble, self effacing and down to earth. If I remember correctly, BG had to physically restrain me from hugging the guy to death. Alcohol may have been involved. Despite my unseemly fanboydom, Smith was still very gracious.......
I like the hire...love that Riley is back too...it's a perfect new coaching job...nothing but upside...hard to do worse than this season did
I'll be honest, it takes some true humility for Riley to come back to his old school with what is pretty much a demotion... As nice of a guy that he is though, I'm sure there won't be any issues.
Riley is like Herpies. OSU can't get rid of him. No seriously, glad he got the appintment. Maybe the nicest guy in a shitty business.
Riley’s only fault was insisting on running a college football team in what has become a corporate sport.....as much as I wanted the Beavs to win, Riley refused to lie, cheat or steal. And God bless him for that. Better mediocrity than tainted or purchased titles.
I grew up about an hour and a half from the University of Nebraska.....moving to Corvalis is a huge upgrade! They were hated like the Lakers to us Iowa Hawkeye fans across the Missouri River.
It might feel like a pretty chill gig for Riley at this point. He can mentor and offer advise when asked, without the pressure of being the one on the hot seat.
And................................................................................he can pad his PERS even more.............................. (As a PERS retiree I know I’m going to hell for picking that scab..............)
As someone who draws far, far less in a year (despite twice the tenure) than Bellotti draws in one single month, I have no problem defending what I’ve earned. Now if had I made his annual salary for all those years I might look at it differently.......
I'm so close that I actually just put in a new kitchen sink...and today decided to just go order a whole new counter top.....I'm gettin' in game shape for this retirement shit...folks say you'll get bored...I don't buy it!
It’s taken me most of 4 years to start feeling bored but I’ll get over it. And you’re gonna wonder why you didn’t bite the bullet and retire earlier. It’s a nice state of existence.
