As we all know, Shaquille O'Neal is one of the toughest big men in the league to match up with - even at the age of 35. He's 7'1, 325 lbs. However, there are some big men around the league that can actually take Shaq. One guy that comes to mind (he's my pick) is Jason Collins. The dude is 7', 260 lbs, and whenever the Nets and Heat play each other, Collins is always assigned to guard Shaq on defense. Collins makes Shaq work extra hard to earn his buckets, in my opinion.

The only guys ever who could give Shaq a nightmare were Hakeem the dream and (a prime) Mourning

I don't really think Shaq has a stopper, maybe now that he's old and gets tired easily. The best defense for him is a quick offense. He's almost worthless against those.

I agree w/ "Pacers fan forever"... a prime Alonzo Mourning was pretty tough. He was one of the only guys who seemed to get up for the matchup w/ Shaq. Shoot, he got up for every matchup. [IMG]

Present- Erick Dampier has always guarded Shaq pretty well, he does a great job on him defensively. Not only does he have height, but he's one of the strongest players in the NBA.Past- Dennis Rodman used to play great defense against Shaq. Granted, Shaq wasn't as big back then as he is now.

Recently I've seen Dikembe Mutumbo guard him pretty well, although in the past Shaq has had dominance against Dikembe. In the past Tony got it, Dennis Rodman, he would bother all the big man including the dream and shaq.

I rememember when Shaq played the Lakers Turiaf didnt too bad a job on him, he couldnt score at all though. We all remember Bynum's , " Who's daddy!" dunk.

    Re: Shaq's best defender?

alright, nobody ever bothered Shaq as much as Elden Campbell. he was seldomly used in the finals, but he did his job and Shaq might have scored a lot, but he wasnt as dominant as he really could have been. they're former teammates and the way campbell, big ben, and sheed shut him down was key in that series.other than Campbell, I think Hakeem (in the 95 finals especially), Ben Wallace has done the job especially when I seen that block in last years ECF, and Tim Duncan-DavidRobinson have done a pretty good job shutting him down.as much as I hate shaq(when it comes to DET-MIA), I love what he's able to do when hes healthy and dominant against whoever he faces.

    Re: Shaq's best defender?

You guys picking Hakeem because of that 95 finals do realize that Shaq averaged 28 points, 13 rebounds, and close to 6 assists per game that series right? He didn't slow Shaq at all defensively, Shaq just couldn't stop him at the other end of the floor. Shaq's team lost, because they was young and didn't perform in that series. As for best defender, I am going to say that Mourning has been the one that has made Shaq work the hardest for his baskets. I think he played him the best, and did the best job on him of everyone that has ever played him

Shaq took it at Hakeem just as well as Hakeem took it at Shaa. Of all the people I watched though, Mourning has always seemed to be able to guard Shaq better than anyone else.

Diop plays pretty well against him, the same with Dampier.
