Sucks. He’s gotta go. He won’t hire a big man coach and he has no clue on rotations. I am sick of him.

How many years can Nurkic be saddled with this and reach his potential?

Again, guy gets in better shape but has this coaching staff and gets worse.

Nurk needs to hire personal coach, he wont learn anything by himself
sometimes he looks great on offense and makes shots, but usually he looks raw and you can see he needs coaching

hell never be offensive talent like KAT (, Jokic, Embiid, but he can be much better than he is right now

I dont know how much of that is due to his late start (14 or 15 yo) of playing basketball

Even if he deserves one (not convinced he does), he isn't getting one. Which is great for us as a team because we save money. So win-win!

Huh. What an interesting idea! A coach that works with bigs to help them develop their skills. That could really pay dividends with all the young bigs we have on our roster. I wonder, is there any precedence for such a thing? Are there any coaches that work strictly with bigs? Is it even feasible for an NBA team to hire such a person?

    Dwight Jaynes:

“But he carries himself on the floor with a certain arrogance, as if he's one of the best in the business. He admits he plays better when he's "mad," but usually seems too cool to get angry. I believe his erratic play has been a big reason for his team's up-and-down performances. From night to night, even quarter to quarter, he's not been reliable”

    100% correct

One of the best things Hurd has ever said during a broadcast was said last night.
'No one. Not any fan, coach, or media member could tell Nurk something his teammates haven't told him already'.
Nurk's biggest issue is the 6 inches between his ears. It's not about playing mad, it's about playing with intensity. Not getting too up, or too down when he makes a mistake.
Too often I see Nurk make a mistake and instantly drop his head. That's a sign a player is down on themselves.
Anyone with eyes can see it's not about talent with Nurk.

I know it's a novel idea, but that's the kind of out-of-the-box thinking I've prided myself on for years.

    You're welcome.

I guess I'm just going to go with the assumption that you're slinging some pretty gentle comedy.

For the record, because sarcasm doesn't translate very well on the internet, my sarcasm was 100% directed at the Blazers for not having picked up on this most obvious of moves. They seem to not even be aware of the concept.

Hurd may be right that his teammates may have told him everything but I won't for one second buy into "no coach" being a difference. That's pure bullshit.

I could tell him what to do, I could have told Michael Jordan what to do. I sure as shit couldn't have shown them and they certainly wouldn't have respected me for having done it.

Laimbeer, Olajuwon....get Kareem. He always wanted to coach. Get someone.

It isn't that they can't afford it.

The notion of "get a big man coach" that is always thrown around here seems like an odd suggestion to me. Maybe not an odd suggestion, just a criticism without full knowledge, maybe?

Did Kim Hughes have great success developing our bigs in his time here? What was it he did specifically, versus other coaches currently employed by the team? Can anyone list each coaches specific area of expertise as it relates to practices, and who they work with?

Does having it be someone who used to be good all of a sudden make them a good coach? Pete Newell was a famous "big man's coach", ran a famous camp for it. Did he have to be an All NBA talent to do it?
Who are the other big man coaches on other teams? Who is developing KAT, Anthony Davis, Embiid, etc.?

It seems like most in here, with the hire a big man coach calls, seem to think once the groups split up in practice, all of the bigs just hit the showers or something, and nobody on the staff works with them. I dunno. Can already see the responses...

I am completely with you on this. I know there are “big man coaches” (Pete Newell) but it feels like people think this solves the problems with our big men. Not sure it does.

And, the thing with guys like that, or camps like that, are they are more offseason type of camps and workouts, generally.
