http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/ce...s/celtics_blog/ <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Paul Pierce will not play tonight against the Philadelphia 76ers, though team spokesman Jeff Twiss said that this did not mean the Celtics captain was shutting down for the rest of the season. Team officials consider Pierce?s status day to day. He could return to action as early as Sunday against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Pierce traveled with the team to Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon but did not attend this morning?s team shootaround. Pierce has mentioned the possibility of shutting down for the rest of the season due to a number of injuries, including a sore swollen and sore left elbow as well as his ongoing recovery from a stress reaction in his left foot.</div> I think it's a good idea if he really is hurting. Why risk injury? These last 11 games are meaningless for Paul Pierce, they are nothing more than a developing period for the young guys, and an evaluation period. I know the article says he might come back Sunday, but why should he? I don't see the point in him returning if he's truly hurting. He's hurting in multiple areas of his body and he's still out of shape because of it, just shut it down.
Should've happened a week ago. But good decision by Pierce. Don't need an even more beat up Pierce going into 07 and being stuck with a player like Hibbert instead of getting a Durant or possibly Oden.
I agree, he should shut it down to rest up the elbow so he can get in shape come late summer and be 100% for October
