I've been saying for a long time that the NBA season should be 50 games, but it would screw up with history and records so it's not going to get changed. The NBA will wants as many games as possible (resaonably) to make profit.
I agree. It's too long. It makes the regular season real boring until around now, when the playoff races heat up.The playoffs are too long as well. Thye take like 2 months...it gets real old if your team isnt in it.I think around 58 games would be real good.

That way it won't feel as wierd, the accomplishments such as getting 50 wins wouldn't fall completely out of proportion and it wouldkeep it in some osrt of consitency. Also the playoffs never have double headers so it has nothing to do with making the players too tired during the playoffs. Also if your team isn't in it, too bad. That's how you decide the champion of that year and the system works fine. I stand by my opinion that they should keep it as it is.

He's never had a problem before, why now? Oh, I know, because injuries affect HIS team, and HIS TEAM, isn't like the Bulls. Phil Jackson is the most overrated coach ever.</div> Um, Phil Jackson has complained about this before. And Phil Jackson is a coaching genius you moron. "Phil Jackson has had some of the best players in the history of the game! OMGZ!" Look at Red Auerbach, had more HOF's than any other coach, had stacked teams...look at Pat Riley with the Lakers...etc....
The Salary cap and guaranteed contracts makes it hard for the majority of the teams to get a decent bench. So the main 7 players on a team end up playing to much...and in that respect..yes 82 games is to much.As a Fan I begin to get a bit bored with games while waiting for the Playoffs to begin.I wouldn't mind shortening the season..but financially it's never gonna happen
I get bored a little bit too, but even if it's a shorter season and your team still wraps up a playoff spot it'll be boring too. I like having 82 games, but the playoffs take wayyyyy too long. It shouldn't be 2+ months.

The playoffs should be where the buk of the games are. 7 games is perfect. You will get a few 1/8 2/7 beatdown series, but it ensures the best team wins for seeds 3-6...and that is important.
I agree with Combs, I like the situation with the first round. Remember when the Lakers went up 3-1 in the series against Phenoix, then Pheonix came back and won the next 3 games and took the series. The Suns went on to go to the western conference finals becuase the Lakers couldnt' finish. If it is shorter a fluke like what happened to pheonix, such as letting up buzzer beaters and dumb little mistakes in the clutch would have resulted in them meeting a first round exit when they deserved that series. 7 games is long enough.
I've always thought a 7 game series is complete overkill. I would like to have every series be a 5-game series. Christ, you have to wait almost 2 weeks for a concllution in a competitive series....it's why the playoffs last forever....it's all about making money...

I don't agree with this. If Hockey can go 82 games, I don't see why basketball can't. Injuries are a factor in every sport. I agree with what most of you are saying that they should have the first and second round or atleast one round be a 5 game series. The 7 game first round series are unncecessary, people get disinterested with the NBA playoffs when it lasts like 3 months.

You have to think about the environment in these kinds of sports, as well.
Hockey teams play 4 lines sometimes, and play limited minutes. These NBA Players are playin 40 minutes plus sometimes. Not to mention, I believe the NHL Season is to long as well. Funny to say it but the Baseball season which is like twice as long has their season total of games completely correct. Football does as well with the exception of maybe lame pre-season games.Hockey and Basketball just seem to long sometimes.

That means you have more weight to carry while you're skating not to mention those guys get the sh*t kicked out of them on the same schedule as basketball players. Hockey players play the same amount of minutes as basketball player, they get checked, they have all those pads on, skating isn't exactly the easiest thing on earth. You've obviously never played hockey, it as just as hard and tiring as basketball if not more.
Phil Jackson has to realize that teams are going to have injury plagued seasons like the Lakers did this year. At least the Lakers have most of their roster back for the playoffs (unlike the wizards). Generations of basketball stars have played 82 games and have lasted through it fine. Also the analogy to Hockey doesn't work, as Combs said Hockey players get alot more rest during the game not creating as much gathered fatigue through the season.I seriousely doubt anything changes.
Hockey games are 12 minutes longer than basketball games. They also have plenty of timeouts in basketball and some players take a lot of time taking foul shots. I really don't agree with you guys but whatever.
