I thought it would be cool to start a trivia thread where anyone can just throw some trivia questions for others to answer. Seems like there are alot of intelligent people here. Wanted to do something fun to step away from the divisive politics of the OT. So, without further ado, here we go. Try and answer these without looking them up. Feel free to post your own.

What was the first U.S. sporting event and when did it originally take place?

What was the originial meaning of the word dinosaur?

What does it mean if your adams apple is larger than normal?

What weighs more water or wine?

How many more teeth do dogs have than humans?

What is the city of Edinburgh, Scotland built on top of?

What is the largest city in the United States?

In what three States is cockfighting still legal?

Which country has the most islands?

Good questions. I have no idea for the first two. Thus eht lleh pu is mirror for shut the hell up

The batmobile has had a flat a couple of times in the comics, but the tires are bulletproof in the films

Only trying to answer some. The others I have absolutely no clue.

What was the originial meaning of the word dinosaur?
I'd always heard it meant "giant lizard" or something like that.

What weighs more water or wine?
As an alcoholic beverage, I would assume that wine floats on water, but I'm just guessing.

How many more teeth do dogs have than humans?
Standard human tooth count is 32; I'm gonna guess 8 more for the dog for a total of 40.

What is the largest city in the United States?
In square mileage? I believe it's Jacksonville, FL.

Which country has the most islands?
I'm going with Indonesia on this one.

And just because, here are my random, ridiculous guesses for the questions for which I had no clue:

What was the first U.S. sporting event and when did it originally take place?
Obviously, the members of the Continental Congress went golfing together after signing the Constitution.

What does it mean if your adam's apple is larger than normal?
It means you have an abundance of testosterone and need to lay off the 'roids.

What is the city of Edinburgh, Scotland built on top of?
The grounds of a castle that was destroyed by English invaders hundreds of years ago.

In what three States is cockfighting still legal?
The lawless old west, I'm sure. NM, AZ, and NV (where you can probably also gamble on it legally).

Without looking up any answers, the ones I do know

    Terrible lizard

    How much larger? Goiter? Cancer?

Water (wine is part alcohol which has lower density than water)

    Largest in area or population?

    Edinburgh rock?

    Islands, I would guess, Indonesia.

    Terrible Lizard

Larger adams apple = more testosterone at puberty.

I read once that the 4 largest cities in the US by area were in Alaska, so I think MARIS is probably right with Sitka.

    No idea on the others.

Apparently the definition of Island is in question since the answer is Finland with 180,000 Islands.
I also wonder is all territories Islands of the US are counted since the US in not listed in the top 10.

With SE Alaska and the Aleutians, Marianas, Hawaiian chain, and plethora of Pacific Islands.

Do they count the river Islands, the Islands in Lakes? The Columbia River alone, has over 1000 Islands. The Sacramento/San Joaquin perhaps even more.

The first U.S. sporting event was the Kentucky Derby. It took place in 1875.

The word dinosaur mistaken for latin was actually originally in Greek...deinosaur meaning fearfully great.

If you have a larger then usual adams apple it means you are cock throppled.

    Wine is heavier than water

Dogs have 42 teeth...10 more than humans who have 32.

Edinburgh Scotland is built on top of a volcano.

The largest city in the United States by square miles is Juneau Alaska

Cock fighting is legal in Oklahoma and New Mexico and was legal in Louisana till recently.

The country of finland has the most islands

Here's a new random trivia question: In 2013, what did a China zoo attempt to pass off as a lion, unsurprisingly angering many of its patrons?

After a little Google-checking, Craig, I call foul on some of these:

The first U.S. sporting event was the Kentucky Derby. It took place in 1875.
Horse racing dates back to Colonial times. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_sports_in_the_United_States

The word dinosaur mistaken for latin was actually originally in Greek...deinosaur meaning fearfully great.
Partially right. The Greek word "deinos" does mean "fearfully great". "Sauros" means lizard, thus "fearfully great lizard", which is often listed as "terrible lizard". https://www.wyzant.com/resources/lessons/english/etymology/words-mod-dinosaur-info

If you have a larger then usual adams apple it means you are cock throppled.
It would be more correct to say that "cock throppled" means a larger than usual adams apple. It derives from it's original use as a description of a hunting horse who's neck "bends like a bow when he bridles". https://books.google.com/books?id=V...oQ6AEIYjAL#v=onepage&q=cock throppled&f=false

    Wine is heavier than water
No. Wine has alcohol in it and is less dense than water.

Dogs have 42 teeth...10 more than humans who have 32.
    Correct for adult dogs.

Edinburgh Scotland is built on top of a volcano.
True. Castle Rock is the remnant of an old volcano. The way you originally worded the question, however, "What is the city of Edinburgh, Scotland built on top of? ", could equally well be answered with a maze of tunnels or even the sealed remains of plague victims. http://www.traveling-savage.com/2011/02/10/what-lies-beneath-edinburghs-old-town/

The largest city in the United States by square miles is Juneau Alaska
This site says Sitka is larger, but it's Alaska so who cares? https://factualfacts.com/us-largest-cities/

Cock fighting is legal in Oklahoma and New Mexico and was legal in Louisana till recently.
According to Wikipedia, "In the United States, cockfighting is now illegal in all fifty U.S. states and the District of Columbia. The last state to implement a state law banning cockfighting was Louisiana; the Louisiana State Legislature voted to approve a Louisiana ban in June 2007.[65] The ban took effect in August 2008."

The country of finland has the most islands
According to the World Atlas, it's Sweden. I suspect that there's a lot of judgement used in determining what is defined as an island vs. just a rock or sand bar. https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/which-country-has-the-most-islands.html

Horse racing may go back to colonial times but the first official "united states" sporting event was the kentucky derby.

Yeah I meant say wine weighs less that was a typo.

You caught me on the saur... So yeah fearfully great lizard...good one

Cock throppled, dog teeth, and edinburgh were correct.(yes, there are other possible answers...i loved on top of scotland)

Yeah I saw that lousiana had changed theres, thought oklahoma and new mexico still allowed it...

That islamd one is a tricky one...multiple answers depending on where you look

Good fact checking man...I'll be more careful next time to check more before I post questions

    Urban Dictionary:

    Thropple
Verb: The act of vomiting; especially the 'so disgusting I just threw up a little in my mouth' variety

    also related:
    Thropplige
Noun: Vomit once it has hit the ground.

Created for the fiction universe of 'The Other Story' (DFP Productions) the word is most commonly used by the creators and innovators of TOS.
    1. The idea of Alex and Daniel procreating caused everyone to thropple.

    2. Careful, don't step in that thropplige!
