If we were to hypothetically end up with the pick that could land us Durant, what would be the point? Yeah, he's a great player, but exactly how much more would we improve? It gives us our 5 millionth wing player, and it gives Danny THAT MUCH MORE room for error with trades and sh*t. I just thought about this today and it made me a little uneasy...I say Oden or trade the pick. What do you guys think?
I say if we end up with Durant, then I will bump this thread... laugh... and quote you every time you made a post praising how good he is. Just kidding, but if we do end up with Durant, I'll still to a backflip and be incredibly happy. You make a good point that we'd have too many wing players, but who cares? We can deal one or two. If we get Durant, Gerald Green is DONE in Boston, I'll tell you that right now. But if we got Durant, he wouldn't "set us back" or anything. He can play some 4 too, by the way. I'm not worried at all, and Durant will be a superstar in this league. If we get the #2 pick, and he comes out, I'll be ecstatic. Durant is a talent you just do NOT pass up. If you'd trade it, you'd be making a GIANT mistake. Danny would never trade the #2 if Durant comes out, no way in hell would he. The fans would flip, media would eat him alive, Durant's marketability would work wonders for the organization, and he's just too good to pass up.
I would trade Gerald if Durant was on our team..sad to say it but honestly I know Gerald is still very very young but Gerald is a project..Durant is an impact playerGerald is probably our highest valued prospect too that I would think about tradingAl is a keeper..Rondo is a keeperI'm thinking we would have to dealGerald, Ratliff, Gomes and/or West and some sort of picks combination for that veteran big man to pair up with Al and Paul that we want if we got DurantEDIT: Not just any veteran though..one that will have an impact on our team and make us a 50+ win team..not just any veteran to make Paul happy...that would just be ridiculous if you gave up youth for another scrub veteran who sits on the bench..I'm thinking somebody along the lines of Jermaine O'Neal to bring in
I forgot to add a disclaimer to my first post, and CB32 pointed it out too, but I too would be incredibly happy if we got Durant as well. As good as he is I finally started to see why he wouldn't really fit into this team as well as someone like Oden would. Someone like Oden would give us a much clearer path to becoming a good team than Durant would.

Getting Oden would fit better, but saying we should shop the pick if we get #2 is ridiculous, to me. No offense.
As much as I'd love Durant, I really don't think I would feel comfortable putting the team in Danny's hands with making big trades like would need to be made if we were to get Durant. Its not that I don't want Durant. Like I said, I'm just uncomfortable with Danny getting the job done after the fact. Durant is the real deal. But would it be worth it to get Durant, only to have Ainge mess up a trade or two, or make a few bad ones, and lose Paul's best years? Not sure if I'm willing to tax Paul's future here just to get Durant.

This summer, he is almost forced to, so we'll see. SOMETHING will be done, as far as trades go, whether we get a top 2 pick or not. I know that's your point, and you're skeptical of Ainge's trades, but we'll see. Again, he's never been in this situation before. I don't think he'll absolutely screw up, to be honest with you.

The high pick, the trading chips, everything. His time to show up now.

Durant is one of the most gifted players college has seen in years. Durant won't get moved he's way too talented and Pierce wouldn't get moved unless he asks for it, a veteran leader is exactly what this young squad needs. As much as Ainge has not proved himself, I think that he'll handle this situation correctly by keeping Durant.
