Will those in "the know" please do a Cliffs Notes version of what's going on. The HCP is very confused if you can believe that.
Republicans want to deport you. Democrats don't. The government won't be funded til they decide whether or not you stay. That's really simplified, of course.
Federal gov't politicians get paid. My sailors who have to do their Reserve Duty today won't (until "back pay" comes "later"). It's kind of messed up...the Navy has to provide lodging for people who drill more than 50 miles away from the drill site. One of the requirements for that is that you have to drill an entire day the next day (makes sense...don't want people staying for free if they're not working). B/c we don't have bases and barracks in every town that has a reserve center, hotels are contracted at preferred rates for those sailors. So...last night we found out at midnight that the gov't was shut down. Those who were not using the lodging were ordered not to come in (b/c they wouldn't be paid) and the drills are being rescheduled. Those who had lodging, so that the Navy could say they met the requirement of "a full day of work if you stayed in a room", had to go in today, unpaid (for now).
Now I'm torn 1. HCP would be deported 2. Axl Rose is "woke" according to Huffpost. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO THINK!!!!!
Thats bullshit. Fuck politicians. They should give their checks to military, you know, people who actually do shit.
Dems, without having any objections to anything in the budget, voted to shut down. Reps voted to stay open for business. President Trump has made his wishes clear, to stay open for business, but he does not actually get a vote in this. The temporary shutdown, which from a running it as a business view is really no big deal at all, is all on Congress. The Swamp Shutdown.
Sure they did. They had a problem with a continuing resolution that only lasts for another month, which is what the House passed and the Senate put up for vote. Lurching from crisis to crisis isn't governance and nothing will have changed in a month. Even the military doesn't like constant CRs, because it gives them no funding number to use for long-term planning. So yes, Democrats (and some Republicans) had an objection to this continuing resolution. Better to require a real resolution now rather than kick the can down the street for another month.
Trump had a deal on the table with the Dems and backed down in the last minute....it was Trump that finalized the shutdown...Dems even offered wall money...Trump in the end would not compromise
