For the first time in 4 years, Dame is not the biggest and most obvious all-star snub (yes, I'm including 2015, since Dame only made it as an injury replacement that year). So since it's not our guy, who is the biggest all-star snub this year, and who should be removed from the squad for the guy you think should have made it? For reference sake, here's a quick graphic showing the 7 ASG reserves chosen in each conference, so you can quickly pick out the one you would have omitted.
Chris Paul would be the slam-dunk choice for me (even though I don't like him much) had he not missed a lot of games this year. Since that rules him out as a snub (just imo most likely) then I think no one was actually snubbed this year. I am thinking most will say Paul George and while he is a very good player he didn't have an amazing year and it is hard to get him on the team when GS takes up 4 spots. So he should be on the team over Klay. So maybe that makes him the snub to pick.
I don't think there was a snub. Paul is All-Star caliber, but missed too many games. Otherwise, I don't think anyone deserving was missed. I think Thompson belongs on the squad. He's quietly having a tremendous offensive year and he has a lot of value on both ends of the floor. When you have an offensive star who's also a very good defender, that's immensely valuable.
He started off bad but he is putting up like 21/6/3 on DPOY level defense and elite 3 point shooting %
I voted for Drummond, because his advanced stats are as good as or better than the other bigs selected ahead of him in the East. I'd probably drop Love off the squad in place of Drummond if I had the choice (Horford's a 2-way player, and Love isn't).
Having only 1 snub per conference is actually not too bad. Some years I could name 3 guys who I would have rather have had on the team.
Even though he's not putting up elite numbers imo Dragic was snubbed. Heat are currently 4th in the East & 7 games above .500 Whiteside has missed time. Theres no way Horford should've made it putting up 13/7/5? Not allstar numbers.
I'm aware of that. Celtics are 6.5 games ahead of MIA. Do they really deserve two all-stars and the Heat deserve none?
True, which further supports the notion that perhaps Dragic was snubbed. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th place teams all get 2 all-stars, but the 4th place team gets none? Honestly, if you look at John Wall's numbers, and the fact that he's missed several games, it's arguable he's the least-deserving East all-star. If you look at Beal's defensive metrics, you could argue it's him as well. However, if Dragic were selected, he would be the unanimous choice as the least deserving all-star.
Over Lowry?! Of the guards selected as East reserves, Lowry is probably the most deserving. Maybe he doesn't score as much as the other guys, but that's because he doesn't shoot as often. He's a point guard who plays like a point guard, but he's as efficient as any of the others, and as good a defender as well. He and Oladipo were untouchable selections, IMO.
I can't believe Westbrook said that. Lou Williams did an "LOL" tweet as well, as if HE should have been an allstar.
Lou Williams has definitely played at an all-star level this season though, honestly since we aren't even really doing East vs West anymore why not combine the conference talent pool(with no positional requirements)? He'd defineltly be an All-Star imo.
