If a pussy had the power to shrink itself...what would you axe it?

If we are being grammatically correct, its never ax or aks or akst, its pronounced...

    As....without the k before a consonant

    Ask before a vowel

Ax is what I expect hillbillies to say (you know, people from outside the Portland metro area).

I want to as you, are you making stuff up or are you serious? Never heard of any such rule before.

Not making it up. I'm an English Major. It is still spelled ask either way. It is pronounced differently depending on sentence structure. And, I must apologize. The first pronunciation is before a consonant not a pronoun.

That makes a bit more sense, at least. I have to say I've never observed anyone omitting the k in ask in front of a consonant. I know I don't. Have/do you?

I do\have...if I am talking fast. Generally, the word ask is spoken faster when it sits before a consonant, and therefore is pronounced as instead of ask, probably without most people even noticing they do it.

Ok. I do not speak fast, and I enunciate each syllable clearly. I believe rapid speech is the devil's work, and I will not be party to it.

Now, shall we discuss the finer points of the use of “probably” vs. “prolly”?

    That's because you are literate.

I believe the ebonics equivalent is spelled acks.

Maybe you have a speech impediment.

I find nothing anywhere to suggest it is proper to ever pronounce ask with a silent k, nor have I ever heard it pronounced that way in all my life.

Even with their sheets on I doubt the Ks are silent in Beautiful Central Oregon.

I uh ain't not no rocket scientist or nothing but I have a hard time feeling sorry for people who don't put in the effort to speak somewhat clearly.

I ain't no Judge Judy but I loved it when someone would say "I borrowed him 20 dollars"....... she'd get so pissed.

My aunt said "warsh" your hands. I'd ask her to spell that word and she wouldn't use the letter R.
