Charge too much and people will want something else that is less money and entertaining. I wonder if local Colleges and Universities increased attendance?
I wish POR had a legit D1 basketball team. I know people are usually affiliated with Oregon or Oregon State, but if we had a big, successful D1 team, I think the city would get behind it. I'd love to see this as a major west coast basketball conference (Ala Big East) Gonzaga, Saint Mary's, Portland State, Boise State, San Diego State, Wichita State, SMU, UNLV, BYU, and Creighton. That's a 10 team league that would have 4 sure tournament teams this year and two borderline teams, with 3 of the 4 out being BYU, UNLV, and San Diego State which all have 0revious tournament success, with the last being Portland State, who is getting sma beautiful new stadium for next year and has recruited well and is on the upswing. Put them in a major conference like that with good resources and they'd challenge for at-large tournament bids. I'd be a Zag fan, and a PSU fan.
I wish the Blazers had a G league team in Oregon period...I'd like it at Mathew Knight Arena in Eugene
PSU needs to chuck football and just focus on other sports. Barnum is a fuckup and they're always barely scraping by with a heavy non conference schedule. The new AD seems to be decent though. Give the new basketball coach a few years and they might be able to do something.
We could call them the Vancouver Grizzlies to revive the name and also piss off MEM fans when we legitimately say the Blazers own the Grizzlies. BNM
PSU is pretty good this year. They have a good coach and a new arena will be opening in a year or two (not sure exactly). I've always felt that PSU could be a top notch basketball school.
As a St Mary's alum (of the 16th ranked Gaels..), I would love that. We get screwed by having 1 or 2 (BYU) decent games throughout an entire league season and their RPI/BPI drops. Right now they are sitting in a good place having just beaten Gonzaga in Spokane, and BYU in Provo. Lock for tournament.
