Trump national security officials are considering an unprecedented federal takeover of a portion of the nation’s mobile network to guard against China, according to sensitive documents obtained by Axios.

Why it matters:We’ve got our hands on a PowerPoint deck and a memo — both produced by a senior National Security Council official — which were presented recently to senior officials at other agencies in the Trump administration.

Seems like a bad idea but it’s a double edged sword I suppose.

Mainly I think it’s better to open things up and the require agencies and private companies to administer appropriate security on their own. But that’s fraught with pending fuck-ups and more cost both laying their problems at the foot of the consumer.

It has nothing to do with China or national security. Those are just the ezcuses of the day. Its about the federal government trying to take control. Hell no.

My first inclination is, Hell No! But, I do question the piss poor service available now and too many carve outs in local areas to allow private over the air internet providers. Port Townsend, Cathlamet are but a few that do this. Here in Oxnard, 4G is not usable about 4 hours a day, and switching to 3G will probably get you 2G at least half the time.

But do I want the Government to do it Better? It perhaps should be treated as a uniform infrastructure provided by the Government for more taxes of course. Verizon charges hefty price to drive my USB stick and it is not so good. Then is does not work at all when in the wrong area. All bad.

Government better? Oh Geez! I just can't.

Yeah. A big problem with having the Government do anything in this area, is the stagnation that would result. Once they lock in a technology,
we would be stuck with it. The better mouse trap would get real hard to swap in. Having Congress make the decisions rather than techs and business managers? ummm, don't think so.

Well... I rather thought it was about a better way... Perhaps a better way that might be difficult to do, if...
