The Memphis Grizzlies may be ready to offer Florida head coach Billy Donovan a multiyear deal.

Donovan is just 42 years old and would be young enough to take the NBA money and still be a candidate for any major college job if things don't work out</div>
I think that this could be a huge step in Memphis being succesful. Billy Donvon is coming right out of coaching repeat NCAA champions, that is no easy feat. He is coming out of college and is pretty young for a coach which could be great or horrible. In-experience is a bad thing, if someone on the Grizzlies roster can't stand Donovan, you have to worry about how Donovan would handle that situation. However, he is a proven succesful coach in the collegiate level and should bring fresh new ideas to the NBA. Memphis should pursue Donovon :dribble:

I dont think he will become an NBA coach this year. He has started a great thing in Flordia, and Flordia is his team....He doesn't want to just go to the NBA to coach a bad team and fail. If they were guaranteed a #1 or #2 pick in the draft, he might sign with them, but nothing is guaranteed. I think this is identical to what Rick Pitino did....and look where he is now.

Jerry West has said that our new coach will be a ...new head coach, one that is young, and has been around the league and basketball alot. I think JW is trying to go for a coach who can grow with our young core, and really get their graces...much like Avery Johnson and the Mavs. I wouldnt mind giving him a shot...but he better not start some sh*t about Noah over Oden with our pick....lol.Theres been talks of Dan D'toni(s/p?), and some other Pheonix assistant. Either one of them would be awesome for memphis, and Phoenix is the first team whos mastered good defense with a high tempo style.

I think it would be a huge mistake for Donovan. He's now a NCAA legend, has a chance to be one of the top to coach...why and the hell would he move to an average NBA team where he won't be an elite coach, we all know NBA coaches don't have a long leesh...it doesn't matter how good Donovan is at Florida...the NBA, dealing with personalities is a whole other animal and very different.

NCAA coaches don't have the longest leeshes either. You also have to realize that Florida will not be the same dominant force that they have been the past couple of years without Brewer, Horford, and Noah. There is no telling when this franchise will go back to the NCAA tournament, it could be next year or not in the next 2 years. Memphis, has alot of cash with the Eddie Jones franchise and a lottery pick in a draft that is supposed to be the next 2003. I mean alot of possibilites here.

Yeah, Memphis has never been a average team...we've either sucked, or we have been a 45+ win team. Memphis will improve drasticlly from this season to next...just wait and see. We arent a bad team, we just dont fully know our identity...which we will find and accomplish this offseason...we have tons of talent, and potential as a team....
