Supposedly the lakers wanna clear cap for 2019 now, this does that and gives them a cheap backup sf/pf for next season before they want maximum space. They will want our first round pick too.

That's a not going to simply dump dump both of those guys for players they won't keep and a 2md round pick. A team like CHI or ATL would at least offer a better 2nd round pick and expirings.

Ah, I still think he's an idiot if he doesn't use it.

Throw in our first then, I bet they make whoever wants Randle(who they will lose for nothing at the end of the year) take Clarkson’s 3/34 mil contract with him.

It's not quite that simple. We're over the tax line at the moment. Let's say that we did get a chance to trade for, say, Clarkson (11.6M contract). Per the CBA, the trade would work if all we did was trade Clarkson for 11.6M of our TPE (leaving us a tiny bit left).

Here's the difference, though. Right now we're about 3M over. We pay $1.50 in tax penalty for every dollar 0-5M over the cap. So our current amount, 3M, is planned on paying 4.5M in luxury tax. If we trade for Clarkson, that goes up.
We add the first 2M of Clarkson's contract at the $1.50 per dollar level. That adds another $3M to the tax penalty.
Then you pay $1.75 for every dollar between 5 and 10M. That's another 8.75M in tax penalty.
Then you pay $2.50 for every dollar between 10 and 15. Since there's about 4.6M unaccounted for, that's 11.5M.

So if you trade the TPE for Clarkson, we'll pay the prorated portion of his salary for the season (around 4M or so), but pay an extra 23.25M in tax penalties (bringing the total to 27.75M). Is Jordan Crawford worth 31M to PA for the next 25 games or so? And that's not even talking about next year, or one year closer to "repeater".

It's idiotic to think there was even a chance that he'd use the Crabbe TPE. It was never going to happen

I'm sure Olshey probably feels the same, so expect more of the SAME.

0.77%. I won't say that any trade is ever 0% (unless it can't be done per CBA) but it would absolutely shock me. That would mean that one of these things (or more) had to happen:

    1) PA decides to go deep into the lux tax to bring DeAndre onboard (maybe? Depending on how much Dame or NO sells him that we need him?)
    2) LAC accepts roughly 20M back for DeAndre to make it work in the CBA
    3) Since, even if we gave up all of our expiring players (Ed, Shabazz, Pat, Nurk, Noah) we still don't have enough to make the trade work, they have to give up some of this summer's cap space to take on a player. But that assumes that they've cut the 3 players they need to before making the trade in order to accept all of our players. And if they don't cut the 3 players, then the long-term salary goes up for each one they don't.
    4) PA values DJ more than having a draft pick. PA LOVES the draft.

and more, but those are the major ones.

Clarkson isn't a bad contract, there's teams that'll want him.

And them not wanting to resign doesn't mean anything because he has a lift a value across the league. There will be a bidding war.

Man, I wish we had some team leaks somewhere. I'd like to at least know what is on the table.

We will see, I think both those lakers are getting dealt, and I don’t think their getting more than expirings and a first back(which my trade offers)Maybe someone with a higher 1st will make an offer but we could have the 12-20 pick depending on how the final couple months go. It’s a buyers market.

I'll give it a solid 5% chance. I 100% want him to be on the roster but I don't think we have the pieces with CJ off limits.

It’s too quiet league wide, tomorrow I’m predicting 10 trades.
