    Its a story because its being viewed as a political statement by Pence. I think you summed up why he didn't stand but that doesn't make it not a political statement because its obvious to see why he wouldn't stand.

    If I accepted an invitation to sit with Magic Johnson and Jenny Buss in their private suite I would. While I hate the Lakers if I accepted such an invitation I would not shit on my hosts.

    That is a political statement. To like it or not everything the VP and president does will be seen as a political statement. Hell Obama using Dejoun Mustard was seen a political statement by some parties.
