On a blustery winter night in the middle of January, Markelle Fultz is working. Sixteen miles from Philadelphia’s gorgeous, state-of-the-art practice facility in Camden, the No. 1 overall pick is in a high school gym, putting in extra work away from the team. He is in sweatpants and flanked by a couple confidants, one of whom holds three different sized balls for Fultz to use while going through various shooting motions. There is something about this scene that an average bystander would not comprehend: The Sixers have no knowledge this workout is taking place, or that one of the men involved in the intimate session was working with Fultz when his shot went off the rails in the first place. This story, perhaps more than any other, is representative of the tornado of voices around Fultz, internally and externally, all thinking they know how to fix what ails the only top basketball prospect who ever forgot how to shoot.... http://www.phillyvoice.com/what-has...kelle-fultz-shoulder-injury-broken-jump-shot/
He hasn't played a game. Until he plays a single game, I am not going to critique him. Yeah, he's number one pick but if something it truly wrong give it time.
in warmups and practice he has a hitch in his shot, it’s very awkward. You must have a serious shoulder injury if even after your cleared to play it requires you to completely change your shooting motion.
something might be wrong with him, but its Phila, Embiid, Simmons and Fultz all missed the rookie season, so...
I’d do CJ for Fultz/Covington/and an expiring. Fultz just needs a return to the PNW. He can play off the ball with Dame.
It’s a really weird situation. Not sure if same article but it might be. Read about it yesterday with clips and everything. It makes no sense. Then I read today embiid said he doesn’t even know what’s going on and how he feels Fultz has the wrong people around him
I love the fact that there is mention of a “blurry video”! Causing stress and chaos......you might even say PANIC.
Reading that you start with a theory or explanation of what you think is going on but as you read more that theory/explanation changes until you get to the very end and have no clue as what to is the actual cause. It is one of the more fascinating things I have read about a player seemingly losing his ability to do what was second nature to him.
That was a great read. The HCP’s opinion...... he has exactly what Roy McAvoy had.....The Yips! It’s all mental if you ask me. Either that or something happened in that August like what happened to Monte Ellis.....some random ass accident they don’t want anybody to know about. One thing that caught my eye was that there is no mention or video of the Sixers SHOOTING coach John Townsend. He was with us for two year and is amazing. Not a mention of him. Kinda strange
Sad thing is, now after all this drama, there is going to be SO much pressure when he DOES return. Can you imagine the media covering this if he had a dickhead loud mouth ass father in the situation.
Solid "Tin Cup" reference. Where's Cheech when you need him, eh? But drawing on real-life examples, it could well be similar to Chuck Knoblauch basically forgetting how to throw from second to first, or when David Duval suddenly lost the ability to hit the fairway. Sometimes athletes just get too far into their own heads, and it wouldn't shock me if that has happened here too.
I totally agree. The more i read the less i knew. I tend to agree with HCP that this seems like a head thing more than an injury thing. You watch Dame shoot a free throw. Doesn't matter if he just sprinted the court three times and got slammed to the court or if he is coming out of a long video stoppage for replay. He steps up takes a deep breath and exhales, spins the ball catches it in shooting hand, slides to a seam, lifts and shoots. Every time the exact same motion. This kid needs to get things set up so he can shoot easily.
If Fultz is not playing, then the Sixers are stuck with a DUD but they enhanced their reputation for constantly fucking up a pick.
Some of these videos reminds me of Chuck Hayes and his awful free throw form. Hopefully Fultzs' is due to an injury, and not because of poor coaching.
