Only they did know. The FBI knew and so did DHS.

The Republicans won't budge on mental health.

There were signs. This could've been prevented.

Did you read the article? Seems like they did everything you would want a family to do, gave him structure, got him back in school, a job, counseling, regular meal times, supervision, was teaching him basic life skills. The one key to the gun safe seems rather naive but based off the information provided in the article that seems like their only mistake, which obviously was a big one.

Yes. But there are things that aren't in that story.

He literally told the feds and DHS he wanted to buy a gun.

Yes, but this article is about the family he was staying with.

What I'm curious about is Cruz was brought into a White Nationalist Militia by one of their members and was given at least one gun by the militia. If the father in this article is the militia member then that is a huge problem.

Dems are the ones who failed for 8 years of being in power. They have never even proposed additional, comprehensive mental healthcare for Americans.

It makes them feel better when a devastated mother screams at Trump on tv.

Why does it have to be only one way to fight this? I am against hiring security to patrol schools but I say we need to fix this problem. Hire more security if we think that will work. But let’s address the gun and mental health issues as well. We need to protect kids at whatever the cost.

Mental health has to be addressed better in relation to guns and society in general. I agree you can’t lock up someone like this Cruz, before the shooting, because of what they are saying but let’s look at a longer waiting period on getting guns. Background checks on their social media. I am ok with people who are spewing hatred not being able to buy guns.

Most people I have talked to about assault rifles give the same answer for why they want them...because they are fun. We need to make it harder to obtain these if not outright ban them. And yes people who will do the right thing will be inconvieneced but if it saves kids lives then it’s worth it.

Ultimately I think everyone is right there is no one way to make things right. It will take a lot of effort, cooperation and sacrifice by everyone to end this.

As a kid I lived on a 300 acre dairy farm...family run..I had to go through a several week long daily training course with extensive testing to get an agricultural drivers license so I could drive a combine from the fields to the graineries or barns when I was in Jr High School....it was not an easy test....you needed to prove you could back up 5 tons trailers of alfalfa with a few inches to spare into a barn...you'd think it would be harder to qualify to use guns and be allowed to purchase large amounts of ammo. I can go buy a gun today without going through weeks of training to qualify....just sayin'

Who says we can’t amend the constitution. Also we don’t allow felons to have guns...do you think felons should be able to purchase? What about people with mental health issues?

Cruz is not the last of the kind out there.
We must eliminate these Killing Zones for them to easily do their evil. Arm the school personnel, and add security, make it too risky to try. It is not the fear of death that will deter some, but the lack of probable success will. The lack of probable success and the fear of dealth will deter most
evil doers, perhaps they would even seek help instead.

Oh! By all mean, make your proposal! Use of the amendment process is long over looked. I would love to read a cogent proposed amendment.
Who knows? It may even gain support. Simple laws will not due though.

So there is one way and only one way to stop this? That seems short sighted and limiting. There needs to be a lot of changes to stop this problem. If you take away the weapons and the “killing zones” that’s a great start. Mix in some mental health reform and I think this can all but be eliminated.
