    armed trained officer freezes and doesn't do anything but teachers who dedicated their lives to English or Math or Biology who decided to take a gun class will totally handle the situation well.

    Armed police would be great. It's also an additional expense. An expense I wouldn't be opposed to, but many would. Allowing teachers the option to carry wouldn't be an additional expense to the populace, because it would be voluntary.

    I don't think anyone believes that allowing teachers to carry is "the" answer. Most who support it consider it "a" step.

    I imagine you're correct, which is why those teachers wouldn't be armed. It would only be the small minority of teachers who are in favor of the idea who would arm themselves.

    Let's run a simulation. the guy who went into this high school has a knife instead of a gun.

    I'd much rather have someone break into my classroom with a knife than a gun.

    The president and conservatives are brain storming real solutions that liberals are likely to block because banning guns is their only solution and it is simply not an idea based in reality. There are too many guns in this country. You dont pay enough taxes to support a gun grab. Not to mention that pesky constitution would have to be amended.

    Mean while conservatives are offering tangible ideals that could be put in place rather quickly.

    But yeah. Thought and prayers is all they offer.

    The training for said teachers, the steps the schools would need to take to make sure everyone is in the know of who has a gun (etc) would cost money.​
    I thin the problem is, while it IS a "step", it's like step 90. There are better options than this to try first.

    Some of the teachers who want to be armed, shouldn't be armed though. A good guy with a gun (in this case, a teacher) doesn't always project people.

    Lets not put more of the burden on the teachers than we need to. I say we come up with something to stop it happening in the first place.​

    So lets do a hypothetical here.
    Lets say a law passes which allows teachers to arm themselves if they choose to.
    Then lets say a whole staff chooses to not carry.
    Now lets say that school who has no teachers armed because they chose not to... Gets shot up.

    Do you think the teachers at the school are called irresponsible?
    Do you think they receive death threats? That they're told they weren't doing their job?
    Do you see them receiving any backlash at all?

    I bet they'd get called cowards, even if they died in the shooting as well.

    Because trapped in a plane is the same thing as being in an open classroom where you can escape or throw desks/chairs at the assailant.

    First thing i learned in spontaeneous knife defense. You are going to get cut, but hopefully with training you wont get cut in a vital area. Hopefully...

    What would you do if I was throwing straight left jabs, then with my right hand I was following up with my stabs?

    You don't want to open up this can of worms.
    There have been plenty of incidents were citizens put their lives on the line to stop a terrorist attack when citizens had no weapons.

    In fact there was a movie recently released on one.

    Actually they did.

    Up until that time hijackings were for money or to release political prisoners. SOP was to remain calm and it would eventually end. No one on the first 3 planes thought this would be different or that their plane was to be used as a weapon. The people on the last plane learned of what happened to the first three planes in talking with people on the ground and acted heroically.

    What stops shooters from targeting cops? Just the presence and possibility is enough to deter most. Id rather deter most than none.

    Arming teachers is the genius idea? That's the fix you speak of? If you think - which you do - that Conservatives have come up with the solutions and Liberals have not had a single idea - then there truly is no point in discussing (not that you have been discussing this, just throwing out insults).
