If the NBA had the Amnesty Clause again, who do you think we'd use it on? Gotta be Evan Turner, right? I wish we had that option again! NBA owners should fight to bring it back. Players still get their $ but gives a team a chance to get out of a bad contract that kills their salary cap. https://www.blazersedge.com/2011/12...azers-to-waive-brandon-roy-via-amnesty-clause
Yes Evan Turner. Meyers Leonard is really the only other option but on pure money and years left you almost have to pick the former.
Amnesty Leonard. Without Turner we don’t win games like last night. With Myers we lose games like last night....
We are stuck with those contracts. There is no way we are getting out of them. No amount of discussion or wishful hoping will do anything. I'm sorry, but being a baseball fan I'm used to imbalanced/shitty contracts creating years and years of bitty acrimony.
Despite the fact that it would have really helped the Blazers I'm actually kind of glad that there wasn't an amnesty clause in the most recent CBA. No one forced GM's to make stupid signings. I don't like when rules are made simply to save teams from their own mistakes. Besides there was a TON of trades and roster changes over the summer. That being said if we had an amnesty it has to be Turner simply for financial reasons. Having $18 million off the books this summer solves a lot of problems.
True, no one forced GMs to make bad signings, but the NBAPA's rejection of the roster smoothing made the 2016 summer of stupidity an almost foregone conclusion. If there were ever a situation that justified an amnesty clause, it was that one.
Wasn't it the owners who voted not to have one this time? It would have had to be approved by the NBAPA but I don't see why they wouldn't allow it since players get their money and get to pick a new team. I think teams with good cap situations didn't want to let those that did make bad signings off the hook. If any GM made a signing thinking that they could just amnesty it if it didn't work out then that GM doesn't deserve to have a job.
Oh, probably. I'm not blaming the PA for the lack of amnesty in the most recent CBA. Just saying that it would've been of more value in this one than in prior. Agreed that its existence shouldn't be a motivator to gamble on a risky deal.
I wasn't trying to say you were blaming the PA for that. I think what it was is that the owners still have to pay the money to the player amnestied AND then also potentially pay a full team on top of that. They seem to have decided that just taking the lumps and keeping the contracts on the books was the best way to go. I'm sure sure some owners wanted it though.
Our GM must be exactly like me on knowledge of NBA players. I knew Evan Turner was... Pretty high pick that didn't live up to expectations but ended up playing pretty good for Boston. GIVE HIM A BILLION!!!!
If they bring the amnesty clause back, the player should only get half of his contract $. But I know that'll never happen. Maybe that would help prevent players from coasting after they get a big contract. Keep them working hard to improve and earn their $.
Without Turner, we'd have a better player who makes less money in his place. That's kind of the point of the whole amnesty thing... BNM
Turner was pretty bad. I was bewildered to see him on the court in the third quarter. I didn't realize Mo was hurt.
