Defense gets no love around here....he's all NBA caliber defense...shot's improved..rebounds great....I don't get the hate around Chief...dude helps us win games night in and night out....I don't care if he's got an ugly dribble...Wes Mathews had an ugly dribble about chin high and couldn't finish a fast break ...Chief can finish a fast break
At least for right now. Collins draws fouls a little too often for my comfort at this point. He will learn and season his defensive skills a little and that will be the correct time to start him.
His potential is just off the chart. A 7 footer who looks coordinated, can shoot a jumper and makes smart plays ? He ain't flashy, but he is consistent and gives you something on both sides of the floor ... and is 19?
We are 15-15 in the last two seasons without Aminu. 52-37 with him. Not sure what our defensive numbers are but we definitely better with Aminu than we do without.
He shoots 57% at the rim...well below average (league avg 66%), but not crushingly horrible. (As a team, BTW, we're last) He shoots 39% from 3. Above average (league avg 36%). Good. He shoots 24-97, 25%, literally anywhere else on the court. 33% in the paint, 11% outside the paint.
You're quoting offensive stats for a defensive player. Defensive Stats generally suck in an absolute sense, so it's better to go with something like @KingSpeed But, yes, Aminu drives me crazy sometimes, and last night was one of those times. Almost single-handedly lost us the game.
I think the key is making sure he understands he’s not an offensive player. Every time he dribbles I cringe.
I'm posting stats based on where he takes shots from in reference to the "should he or shouldn't he dribble" question. AFAIK, no one dribbles on D, so I didn't spend a thought on it.
He was awful again, you can not be near a Contender if your starting Power forward is Aminu! This Dude can absolutely nothing on offense except Shooting 39% on much wide open 3s, and imo 39% is ok but not great when you allways are wide open, so he could be better in that Category. I can not stand Aminu, when he Starts to dribble or trying to Post up... just pray it doesn't end in a Turnover. He has Zero Basketball iq or skills
Here are some more stats. He only shoots 3.6 shots per game from anywhere other than the 3 where he shoots 4.6 shots per game. He also has lowered an acceptable 1.5 turnovers per game to 1.1 turnovers per game while maintaining his same average for rebounds and playing very good defense. You don't judge a defensive player on his offensive stats. Look at a guy like Andre Roberson for OKC sho is a horrible offensive player but yet is effective as a defensive player for them. There are 2 sides of the court and Aminu provides very solid defense while also providing some offense and some needed 3 point shooting. Sure he can be out of control at times and often gets lamblasted for turnovers but the numbers say differently with only 1.1 turnovers per game
I'm trying to find where in your argument you say anything remotely refuting the "he shouldn't be dribbling ever" comment from someone above. You say his TOs have gone down, and that's great, but what becomes of his "non-TO" drives? What becomes of any of his drives? If your argument is that Andre Roberson should be dribbling more because he's a standout defensive player and they get a pass on offensive mistakes, go for it. If your argument is that Chief should still get minutes because he's a great defensive player who can hit a standstill 3, I agree. If your argument is that we should encourage him to keep dribbling and driving, there's literally not one single positive--one single thing that's even average that happens when he steps inside the 3pt line (to include ORB%), so I still maintain that he shouldn't. Do you have anything to say otherwise? Because everything you wrote above seems to either confirm what I wrote or talk about something entirely different. Edit: Re-reading your post and confirming the stats, there are 4.7 possessions per game (or, based on his usage rate, approximately 40% of his possessions) where Chief does something that results in a TO or a shot that is horribly below league-average. Put another way, DeAndre Jordan shooting FTs all game long would generate more points per possession than Chief on anything other than a standstill 3.
I certainly agree that Aminu shouldn't dribble. However, I may have to adjust my thinking. I thought that the drafting of Zach was the end of Biebs, and I was right. However, the drafting of Zach may also be the end of Aminu. If Biggie ups his 3FG%, then Stotts could easily run with Nurk/Collins and Davis/Biggie pairings next year.
I'd like to see Stotts try a Lillard/CJ/Aminu/Collins/Nurk lineup at some point, if only for 20 or 30 minutes over the remainder of the season. It's never been tried, and yet it seems like it could be our best lineup. It'd be nice to know for sure before the playoffs.
I agree with you, but it won't happen. Stotts doesn't believe in Aminu at the 3. He'll play 3 guys 6'3" or under at the same time, but 3 guys he views as a PF or C--NEVER!!
