Mom sent me this and I thought I'd share it…sadly for us, even though it is fictional and tongue in cheek, it typifies the way things are in "The United States Of The Offended”. Here is an e-mail sent to Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune after an article he published concerning a name change for the Washington Redskins. Dear Mr. Page: I agree with our Native American population. I am highly insulted by the racially charged name of the Washington Redskins. One might argue that to name a professional football team after Native Americans would exalt them as fine warriors, but nay, nay. We must be careful not to offend, and in the spirit of political correctness and courtesy, we must move forward. Let's ditch the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians. If your shorts are in a wad because of the reference the name Redskins makes to skin color, then we need to get rid of the Cleveland Browns. The Carolina Panthers obviously were named to keep the memory of militant Blacks from the 60's alive. Gone. It's offensive to us white folk. The New York Yankees offend the Southern population. Do you see a team named for the Confederacy? No! There is no room for any reference to that tragic war that cost this country so many young men's lives. I am also offended by the blatant references to the Catholic religion among our sports team names. Totally inappropriate to have the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Angels or the San Diego Padres. Then there are the team names that glorify criminals who raped and pillaged. We are talking about the horrible Oakland Raiders, the Minnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Pirates! Now, let us address those teams that clearly send the wrong message to our children. The San Diego Chargers promote irresponsible fighting or even spending habits. Wrong message to our children. The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants promote obesity, a growing childhood epidemic. Wrong message to our children. The Cincinnati Reds promote downers/barbiturates. Wrong message to our children. The Milwaukee Brewers. Well that goes without saying. Wrong message to our children. So, there you go. We need to support any legislation that comes out to rectify this travesty, because the government will likely become involved with this issue, as they should. Just the kind of thing the do-nothing Congress loves. As a diehard Oregon State fan, my wife and I, with all of this in mind, suggest it might also make some sense to change the name of the Oregon State women's athletic teams to something other than "the Beavers (especially when they play Southern California. Do we really want the Trojans sticking it to the Beavers??? I always love your articles and I generally agree with them. As for the Redskins name I would suggest they change the name to the "Foreskins" to better represent their community, paying tribute to the dick heads in Congress.
^^^^^^^ Oustanding article and irrefutable these days. 10 yrs ago when Redskins, Indian's et al., were throwing a fit, I felt it was more dishonorable to think of changing great institutions in sports. It made no sense, and I saw it more degrading to eliminate some team mascot/names; and honorable to display Redskins, Blackhawks, North Dakota Sioux Warriors, Seminoles. I still believe as much, keep 'em all, it's who we really are. With the disgrace of the NFL, I now have no probs to change any names, tho' imho, I still would like to see no changes. Give Birmingham or Mobile, a Team and call 'em the Confederates, in a new stadium named Robert E. Lee, or Jefferson Davis.... in the 80's-90's, other than wearing my Starter NY Yanx coat, I bought heavier winter coats with hoods, one a LA Raiders, and LA Kings, both Black n Silver. First week I wear the raiders/kings coats to work, a elder Hispanic who had grown up on the gang banging Chicano streets of Pacoima, would jokingly give me shit daily, for my attire. "Hey Bob, I see you're wearing your gangbanging colors today, again". Sad indictment, cuz it was somewhat true. The gangs of LA wear either blue-(Crips), red-(bloods). Chollo Chicano's prefer Black n Silver or Silver n Black, the attire of Hispanic gangs. PS- my Dog is upset Georgia has a team Bulldawgs, but not Tibetan Spaniels, not German Shepherds, or Scottish Terriers, no Dobies, no Rotties, et al. No Kitty Cats, doh- that's the Lingerie Football League....
Yeah, and from what I've read and from polls I've seen, the majority of Native Americans don't consider Indian mascots used in sports names as "offensive".
Disappointed that the Indians caved in to pressure and will remove the Chief Wahoo caricature. Intelligent People took it for what it was, a caricature with no belief that all Indians looked like that. Any more all it takes is for one "offended" person to stir up shit and it starts rolling downhill. As my old buddy Hank Williams Jr. once sang "if you don't like something can't you just let it pass.
exactly, those I've known (of Native American Ancetry), feel/think the same. It's an honor to see and hear; as there was never any intent other than to Honor those of Native American Heritage. Then there was if you recall a Denny's type of eatery called "Sambo's", which went out of business, yet imagine had they of survived; they'd of had to change to name to Whitey's, or out here Jose's. We all have skin of color, last I looked white is a color, and it's an honor to get that spring redneck....My wife wears Oakley wrap arounds and looks like a Racoon in the summer. Speaking of "Coons" another moniker, like gay or fag, that has taken on differing connotations over generations. In Cajun Culture its expected for one Cajun to address another as "Coon Ass", why cuz they'd literally eat/use every part of wildlife, nutria, racoons, including the asses, so the oddities go with a laugh... Call someone a coon out here its inflammatory war. Yet blacks can & are more often than not calling each other N'gga, wtf is with that. A white man says as much he's crucified, yet its acceptable in their own culture. When I was a kid in the Luzianna in 62/63 & again in 68/69, a black person was still called a Negro without offense. Why is a Mexican beer still named Negro Modelo??? In backwoods of the South even in the 70's, it was disresptful not to call a black the N word without negative connotations. When I was enrolled in school, coming from KS to Shreveport/Bossier City, My Mom had to give the ok for me to simply have a black teacher. Her & my own response was taken back, as in wtf are you asking me this, before I go to my 1st class, I've never had a black teacher, but didn't understand why it would be enough an issue to have a Principal ask us, prior to admission. Yet, I still recall "Colored" bathrooms, water fountains, buses on the back, rear door entrances even in Sears, Penney's et al, ntm- segregation; having to take a bus for 45 mins across Shreveport, when I lived 1 block from the school I used to go too, and should of never had to of been bused. I still recall at age 8 my Mom grabbing the back of my collar, as I began to walk into the colored restrooms, pulling me back and explaining southern ways; as I was going to get a drink out of "colored" water fountain.... We never ever celebrated Lincoln's B'day in Luzianna, but we did get a day off of school for Robert E. Lee day, January 19th... Such a radical difference b/t my life in the South in the 90's, where I was always respected by anyone of color other than my own, extremely respectful all were. Out here, its utter fkng chaos of racism, hand out entitlements. People in this socially shredded fabric have forgotten the values that made this Nation strong, by not realizing we all have to serve somebody someway, somehow albeit the govt, employeer. My father growing up on a Western KS farm, with no electricity, a well outside for water, no gas, no air conditioning, no refrigeration, no TV. One learned how to surive, ntm- when a tractor, car or anything broke, one knew how to fix it. One lived on the foods they raised, livestock to produce, and canning was a mandatory way of life. The same applies to life in general. This time in the US and Caly, no one wants to work, give back to society or be the servants we all should be towards each other. Society out here is so fkng lopsided its utterly sick, in total disrepair I fear....and few know anything of substance, ignorance and demanding, their primary knowledge base... The other day 15 adults got into a fist fight in a fkng Chucky Cheese. A place once (Prior to Section 8's court debacle with Northern LA county), where parents took their Kids to celebrate their Kids B'days etc. In the last 15 out of 25 yrs of Chuckee-Cheese, the place has become a ghetto, taken over by adults, by Tyrone and his entourage, with the all you can eat cheap shit for pizza, marinara on a cracker, some artificial cheese. Now those kids 25 yrs later are grown ups, act worse than their kids, as its the adults who are teaching their kids nothing of substance, no manners, no values, give me give me. Then there is the Welfare baby making system. Most women of hispanic or black, and or mulatto's, have 3-6 Kids, usually all by different dead beat never to be seen again Fathers. Hell the vagrants don't even ask for hand outs, they demand it. I'm growing weary after years of trying to help, being told to give anyone a fkng dime. My response these days is torrential fire and brimstone. I had a black man (who'd hit me up approx every week for 8 weeks, and never got a dime from me), had the nerve as I was parked at Walgreen's waiting at the drive up window, while talking to my Dad on the cell phone. The fkng bum bothered to knock on my window, and shout over my phone call, I got out with a baseball bat and said "can you not fkng see I was on my phone talking? get the fk out of here and remember this face, cuz you better never approach me again".... Yeah, there are plenty of white peeps who are vagrants, yet much more respectable. Were seeing a culture, cross sections of society, that are purely rotting from within, and they've brought it upon themselves more often than not. Yet I do have a heart for those who have been displaced from jobs, homes, cars, and live on their own land in shacks made of tents, cardboard, tin, plastic bags, and some plywood. So, it's a hard call either way one calls it, either help the destitute, help repair a irrepairable situation for the most part, less say 10% who can and will (with assistance and a helping hand of a system) pull themselvs back up. I can lean either way. I used to give weekly consistent contributions to the homeless shelter, and such made a difference. Now..... might as give everyone a gun so society, as they turn upon their own, (in So Cal), which would by natural selection; thin itself out of the garbage on the streets, i.e. gang banging criminals, and help those who will help themselves.... a very thin line it is to draw... Keep in mind these tents are in a dry river bed, ("Armagosa") which begins north east of Las Vegas and erodes into the desert with tributaries galore for 400 miles or more. When it rains 1/2 inch, since the desert doesn't absorb water well, it runs off and become torrential raging rivers with 2"-3". These banks are b/t 20-30 feet high, and often this long ass dry river overflows its banks on an annual basis.... Why are they in the river bed? When they put their tents in the city's open empty desert lots, they are arrested. No help in sight. 4 tents here: 3 more tents here, the other 2 are behind the bushes, of which I didn't wan't to intrude... .
sorry for the manifesto.... on 2nd thought no I'm not, I've been up since 3am, got 4 hrs sleep, and a pot of coffee later, voila, babylon bob... Here's a story that's going to establish some kind of precedence. As city upon city have passed non-vagrancy homeless laws. Choosing to imprison, fine those who have nothing, when they honestly need help, or a caring hand. These are not criminals at all.... What this article fails to say, all news groups have failed to include pertinent material details, atypical of today's shit for news....the family lived on Land owned by themselves. How they paid their property taxes???? They had to walk in water. Many came to their defense, yet makes me wonder if the other residents of Joshua Tree knew of this families plight, where was a helping hand....?? The story also fails to tell the story of the 73 year old father, who had a good job he commuted to, a home, cars, and his company went bankrupt in a recession. They lost everything, and have been living like this for years. Now they're criminals, really???? When so many knew but did nothing, isn't that a pity..... https://www.desertsun.com/story/new...hua-tree-children-plead-not-guilty/390345002/ http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-joshua-tree-couple-20180302-story.html
If Hank Williams were alive today and had written "Jambalaya" "pick guitar, fill fruit jar & be gayo" he'd have had the whole LBGT Community after him . Ditto with "Kaw-Liga, "Kaw-Liga was a wooden Indian standing by the door" he'd have had the AIM after his ass for stereotype attempts. Shit has gotten so ridiculous with this "offended" that I just try to take it one day at a time.
