<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Sources: Celtics To Offer Doc An Extension 9th April, 2007 - 1:35 pm Boston Herald - According to league sources, the Celtics are prepared to offer Doc Rivers a contract extension following this season. Rivers? original four-year deal ends after next season, and he has stated he didn?t want to be in a lame duck position, though he did stop short of saying he would leave if the team didn?t extend his contract. While the salary figures and length of the new contract have yet to be discussed, both sides seem willing and eager to get a deal done. Neither director of basketball operations Danny Ainge nor Rivers would confirm the news, but both made clear their satisfaction with the way things have gone this season under circumstances that include a far too young roster and a series of key injuries</div> Thank god, it's so much fun listening to you guys go apshit on Rivers.... :HAHAHA:

I've defaintely ranked on Rivers in the past because some of his in-game coaching decisions just boggle my mind but to his defense, it's mostly Ainge's fault that Rivers has had a lot of bad times here in Boston. He's been juggling mediocre players in and out of this orginzation and Doc has never really had a consistent lineup to be working with. It's hard to do a good job when the average age of your ball club is like 20 years old. Plus, Ainge and Wyc have had nothing but great things to say about Doc Rivers so if people are surprised/pissed by this it's their own fault.

Here's my article I posted on my blog a few minutes ago:

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><div align="center">[IMG]</div>

According to Steve Bulpett, league sources have confirmed that the Celtics are prepared to offer Doc Rivers a contract extension this summer. Doc?s four-year deal, signed in 2004, expires at the end of the 2007-2008 season (which is next year).

Some believe it would be unfair to give Doc the boot this summer due to the youth and the injury woes, others feel he?s just simply not a good enough coach to deserve an extension after this mess. I, am somewhere in the middle. I do understand that this is most certainly not all Doc?s fault. Doc has no control over the injuries, he doesn?t have any control over most of the continuous mistakes some players make out on the court, and he is not responsible for the roster he has to work with. I think Doc is a great person, he works hard, he loves teaching, the players respect him as a person, and he does want to win, but I believe his flaws are too impeccable for Celtic fans to handle for much longer. Whether it be how he handles some young players, how he plays too much ?small ball,? his failure to call timeouts at the proper times, his lack of substitution skills, his lack of offensive sets, his inability to let young players play through mistakes, etc.

I personally feel that while he?s a great person, there are too many flaws in his coaching for me to believe he is worthy of a contract extension. We?ll see how it all pans out this summer, only time will tell, but I think this organization would be making a big mistake issuing Doc Rivers a contract extension.</div>

Doc Deserves another shot at this... He has had a rough year with this young squad and I think that with oden or durant in the lineup alongside pierce, the all mighty Jefferson, delonte, and gomes. Then you have Gerald Green coming off the bench with Tony Allen, rondo, Perk and Wally (who I wish we would trade) we could have a nice high scoring squad and we could do some damage! If things dont change next year with a healthy team, then we can always fire Doc, but for now I think he deserves a chance to show what he can do after a year of development and teaching.

Fair enough, his team has been hurt and he has a young batch of players on the rise. I say give me another shot and see what happens with a team that is at 100 percent. I know you Boston fans think he isn't a good coach, but hes gotta be better then Mike Brown.
