My guess is they don't want to overextend themselves. You become too big and your food standards/quality control turn to shit. Like remember the way 5 Guys USED to be? Imagine that happening to Burgerville. It's not worth it.
There is no better hamburger than one grilled in your back yard. I only wish I could make french fries the way McDonald's makes them. Oh, and I also wish Mrs. Neushin still made her excellent naturally fermented dill pickles.
I've got a few jars of Bubbies in the pantry right now. They're good, very good, but not as good as Mrs. Neushin's.
Oh man. I don’t wanna get you in a room with my wife, arguing Tebo’s origins....She grew up in Oregon City and remembers Gene and Joe’s being in an old house on the existing Tebo’s site. Before it was Gene and Joe’s it was the Cheese Wedge (Lord, I’ve heard this story so many times....). But she’s a bit younger than you and her memories may be off (not that I’m gonna open that can of worms with her). Anyway, Tebo’s closed about a year ago and is now (of course, it’s McLoughlin Blvd) a car lot. Tebo’s wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea but their hamburgers were the closest to homemade and they were using quality beef (and Tillamook cheese) way ahead of everyone else. They were a huge part of our family’s life and I miss ‘em to death.
What I want to know is with Tebo's gone.... where do old people go to get their Sunday dinner? That place was strategically placed for the AARP crowd.
I remember Parchman Farm, the old jazz joint at about 12th and Hawthorne used to have a bowl of Mrs. Neushin’s pickles on their menus. I was never a jazz (or Jazz) fan but used to drop in there for pickles and beer Fairly often. And yes, Bubbie’s are the closest you can find to Mr.s Neushin’s.....
Wow, no wonder Bob's is always filled. My parents like to go there but I am not a huge morning guy so the menu doesn't really do it for me.
Well, when you have ol’ Bob himself playing the piano and entertaining the guests, how can a little old lady turn her nose up at that? Who’d have guessed, Bob having groupies......?
Something tells me UncleCliffy'sDaddy is opening up a breakfast diner ..retirement is getting boring?
I first went to Gene and Joe's in about 1952. It was located on 99E just about half a mile North of where Tebo's was. We used to go to the Bomber for gas where I'd crawl around the B17 like the one my father flew in in WWII and then we'd go eat at Gene and Joe's nearby. I'll never forget their contest for best waitress. They had a brand new red Corvette sports car perded right in the restaurant as the prize. The winner was chosen by all the compliments that customers would write on a form of some sort. They, along with the Carnival, used to have the best condiments bar ever.
Nah, just getting bored with the same breakfast places.....and tired of us bitchin’ at each other over stupid shit we have little if any control over at the end of the day. Breakfast I can control.....
Went to Shake Shack yesterday in The District at Green Valley Ranch Casino. That shit is the Starbucks of burger chains.
