Smoking is very strongly correlated with lung cancer. But some people who never smoked get lung cancer. If dviss were to say smoking causes lung cancer, bodyman would google and find every person on earth who did not smoke but got lung cancer and say see, people who don't smoke get lung cancer so what are you beefing about?
I don't know what you're advocating. All it seems like is a bitchfest because one dumb kid got a ridiculous free pass. If there's proof that black kids get a worse sentence on average for the same crime in the same state let's actually investigate it and do something about it. They need to have the same priors as well. First offense vs first offense and so on. Now we're just rehashing the same thing about the same kid we talked about a couple of years ago.
Nope actually you two are the ones who cherry pick. Dviss starts a thread about one special case that we can't prove is because he is rich more than white. How do we prove it is race? Have a rich black kid kill four people in the same town and see what happens? That wouldn't even account for all the variables. The media attention this case got would probably get another white kid the max in that same court.
It's BEEN investigated..... I JUST quoted numbers above... And... You can't REALLY be thinking I'm advocating that some black rapist to get the same sentence as Brock Turner do you???? Brock Turner released from jail after serving half of six-month sentence in Stanford sexual assault case Former Stanford University student Brock Turner was released from jail early Friday morning, after serving half of a six-month jail sentence on a sexual assault conviction. Turner, whose sentence was widely criticized for its leniency, was released shortly after 6 a.m. and was met by a crowd of reporters. He exited the jail and got into a waiting white SUV that left immediately afterward. Turner offered no comment to reporters. “If we had our way, Brock Turner would be in state prison serving a six year sentence, not going home,” the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office said in a statement. The statement emphasized the focus on a bill, AB 2888, that would require a state prison sentence for anyone convicted of sexually assaulting an unconscious person. “With the Governor’s signature, the next Brock Turner will go to prison,” the statement said. Early releases are commonly given because of good behavior and because of California’s prison realignment. Superior Court Judge Aaron Persky is facing a recall campaign over his handling of Turner’s case. Turner was convicted in March of three felony counts: assault with the intent to commit rape of an unconscious person, sexual penetration of an unconscious person and sexual penetration of an intoxicated person. He attacked an unconscious woman behind a garbage bin on the Palo Alto university’s campus in January 2015. At his sentencing, Turner faced up to 14 years in prison. Prosecutors sought a six-year prison term. Persky ultimately opted for the lighter jail term of six months and also sentenced the Ohio native to three years of probation. At the time, he said a lengthier penalty would have a “severe impact” on Turner. Criticism of the sentence escalated after the unidentified victim’s 12-page, single-spaced letter that she read in court went viral after it was published by the media. She harshly criticized Persky for giving Turner “a soft time-out, a mockery of the [seriousness] of the assaults.”
I recall this being a bleeding heart liberal judge, was he not? I'd prefer if crime like this had a very narrow sentence range then there isn't a beef.
You just posted a soft on crime liberal judge letting someone off easy and you attribute it SOLELY to race. You have chosen what you want to believe and will not budge. I could waterboard that judge and he would say it wasn't because of race and you won't believe it.
Yep, this thread has convinced me that we don't need to let judges choose the sentence. They just need to ensure a fair trial and if the jury convicts you they convict you and you get what is already set.
There is no proof. It differs everywhere. Depends on the judge. People will say it’s racist. It’s whatever. It’s easy to point the finger rather than the same violent communities in inner cities whether black or white, Latino take responsibility. You watched that flint documentary. You know how it goes
This thread is literal nonsense. The cherry picks of all cherry picks just to line up with a narrative. Can’t believe crandc and Chris wanna say oh if he were black he would of been shot. Okay? Yeah that isn’t divisive at all. Hey you two how about whenever you’re in trouble you just don’t call the police because according to the bullshit narrative all they do is hunt black people and the justice system is obviously rigged right? It doesn’t reflect how certain communities are, no it’s just a giant conspiracy. Insane
Crandc didn't seem to want to explain her thought process when she saw the black guy get a light sentence for killing a trans woman. It is just "screw you" Typical of the emotional
It happened here where we incarcerate shit tons of people. If he did it in Maine he'd have gotten probation. More proof of cherry picking.
I hate how people rely on this "there's no proof" bullshit... Racism isn't easy to prove. But most times the shit walks and talks just like a damn duck.
It's funny how the same USUAL suspects come in here and don't even attempt to answer the question. They just get defensive about their whiteness and go into their usual bullshit enclave of security. Unable to step outside of their own thinking. Same people all the time. It's never anyone different.
