MJ is obviously the better player. Both play similar but MJ wsa more determined and a bit more consistent. Both would drain a shot in your face, psoterize you, pass, cross you, anything. Only thing Kobe has on Jordan is a better outside shot. Kobe is about 7/10 to MJ.
yes, jordan has achieved more, proved more, andin my opinion is more consistent in scoring which is more valuable to a team.
I've said it in the past and I'll say it again. Kobe is GARBAGE! Anyone can score as much as him shooting 50 times a game. Maybe if he would learn to pass the ball more the Lakers would actually win. Jordan is on another level.

Not many players can do what he does averaging only 22 field goal attempts per game.

Hell, if we were basing these two players off of skill alone, and not counting the playoffs, give me Kobe Bryant 7/10 times. He is a better 3 point shooter, just as good of a mid range, just as explosive, better passer IMO, similar rebounding, and both were and are good defenders. The reason MJ is the best of all time is because of his clutchness in the playoffs. Kobe's career isnt over yet, and if he was to win 3 more rings or something like that, this is a VERY close debate.

I agree with most of what you said about Kobe, but MJ was a better scorer, rebounder and defender than Kobe. Yes, Kobe is a more versatile scorer, but MJ was much smarter, more efficient and could explode for 50 just like Kobe. MJ was way more determined to be a lockdown defender than Kobe, and was simply a better rebounder. Then add in the clutch factor and his list of team and individual accomplishments, and MJ is the winner.

Let's lay off until at least both of them have finished playing. It's not exactly fair to compare somebody who has played his career already to one who is just reaching his peak. Naturally Kobe hasn't done a lot of the things Jordan has, but that may be because Kobe hasn't had the time or opportunity to do it yet.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Michael Bryant @ Apr 14 2007, 12:40 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Why do people always say that? They always say sh*t like "Kobe isn't even close" like Jordan's untouchable or something. I mean, I don't care too much about this sort of comparison, in the end I just want Kobe to be the best Laker ever (being the best Laker ever is more prestigious than being the best Bull ever). But, the two players are INDENTICAL when they play. I mean they do the same things. It's hard not to wonder. But you really can't make this comparison when one of the players is the most beloved and the other is hated by everybody. Both players are judged by bias and ignorant opinions. Jordan that he's never going to be touched (bullsh**) and that Kobe is nowhere near him (also bullsh**). People are too biased towards Jordan while been to biased against Kobe. If the guy becomes better than Jordan it's because he earned it with hard work. Kobe busts his ass when he plays, he lives and breathes basketball, I think he deserves just a little bit more respect than what he's getting. These Jordan lovers are ridiculous and blind. What bothers me is, that Kobe is the closest thing since MJ yet everybody says that he can't even be compared. But LeBron James on the other hand, is a mirror-f*cking image. Let's get real.</div>Love this post. I was gonna say something along these lines, but I didn't wanna copy you. Anyway I pick Kobe, why? well because he's one of the most hated players, and yet he doesn't baby about it, and stop playing his best. He goes out there, and makes the other team pay.
Here's why Jordan is and probably always will be better than Kobe:1. He played in a MUCH tougher era defensively speaking. Teams like the Knicks and Pistons played very physical defense that is now impossible to play because of the rule changes, yet Jordan was still able to lead the league in scoring 10 times. Kobe has 1 scoring title in a much softer era. 2. Jordan has 6 titles. Kobe has 3. Jordan was undoubtedly the best player on his team for every one of those titles. Kobe was not. 3. The Chicago Bulls are the ONLY team in history to win multiple titles without an all-star caliber big man. Look it up. The only team to even win one without a great big man is the 74-75 Warriors. Every single NBA Championship team in the history of the league has had a great man in the middle. Jordan's Bulls had Bill Cartwright and Luc Longley. This was during the golden age of centers when Ewing, Shaq, Hakeem, Robinson, Mourning, & Mutumbo carried their teams to great records every year. This is probably the most impressive thing about Jordan; his dominance over a leage where big men rule.So until Kobe is able to win at least one championship without a great big man, don't compare him to Jordan.
Jordans era and today, are both pretty soft. Jordan did play great in the mid 80's though. But, from 1993-2004 the league was in a constant downhill spiral. I mean think about it, Jordan's Bulls didn't even need a center to win 6 titles.

In fact you look at any Knicks series from the 90's and it's just brutal. Save for the current Pistons and Spurs, every team now would get hammered if they played in the 90's. It's all finesse now as opposed to then when it was primarily physicality. Saying the league was worse 10 years ago is just BS. It was different; not better or worse. The game was evolving just like it always has. It's not like guys 10 years ago were only 6'3 215, inferior athletically, and shooting set shots. The latter part is just an extremely dumb argument. The Bulls didn't need a big man to win 6 titles, but every other team (except one) that has ever won a championship did? Yeah, in an era when you had Ewing, Robinson, Hakeem, Shaq, Mourning, and Mutumbo in their primes, who needed big men? And that's not even bringing up the inside scoring of forwards like Kemp, Malone, Barkley, and others. Hakeem's Rockets just happened to win two in a row in between the Bulls dynasty. You're right, big men weren't important at all in the 90's. The importance of the big man has NEVER gone away. They're just as important now as they ever have been. Their importance didn't disappear just because the Bulls were on top. Jordan's greatness is reflected in that they were able to overcome not having a strong inside scorer. No other team has ever been able to do that. You need look no further than the current Chicago Bulls to see how the lack of an inside scorer is killing them.
You guys are soo stupid Kobe is tyhe greatest player ever...OK Im joking. All bias aside...Talent wise I would say both players are equal, and can basicly do anything they feel like with a basketball...But at this moment of time, the only thing that Jordan has over Kobe is the rings, and lets not forget, Jordan had pippen, the few years, Kobe's equivalent to Scottie Pippen is Smush Parker.Kobe also has a lot of years to get a couple of rings (Hopefully) escpecially if he gets the correct supporting cast.
Its pretty simple....If Kobe can get as many or more rings as Jordan, I think you can consider him as good or better...If not, Jordan is better. Both players are extremely talented, both players can pass, both players can defend, both can rebound, both can score from anywhere on the floor (Kobe has more range), and both are leaders...Jordan just has more rings so far so he is better.
