Let me rephrase. NORTHCOM (who doesn't have enough troops to run the operation) would probably say something like "hey, SECDEF, need more dudes." SECDEF tells JCS to shake loose some people and equipment to support Operation Montezuma. JCS directs the services to do so. Since the Army and Marine Corps are kinda occupied right now, we'd need a bunch of reserve/NG ground troops. Hence, JCS could get a vote, but their hands are kinda tied. And Gov Brown doesn't.

They will be getting “Active Duty Status” pay now. You should be outraged.

Meh, same rate. But add in Hazardous Duty and Tax-Free status for Combat? Cha-CHING!

(Kinda kidding, kinda not. The average soldier in the Guard, if he does a one-year deployment, is probably making 45k even with BAH and BAS. I know you know, but many on here don't.)

    The problem is twofold:
    1. It takes away from their training regimen which is how to engage in combat;
    2. It transfers payroll payment from the states to the Federal government.

In the past, their commanders have requested relief from that duty because it wears on the troops.

This was all spelled out in a recent broadcast of the PBS NewsHour.

While I was stationed in Vietnam, all my pay was tax deductible. I presume the same applies today to all troops in combat.

Just read what troops are paid today. OMG, I think we made about $7,200 for a year. My GI Bill was $110 a month.

You are correct. It is currently a USNORTHCOM operation and voluntary for the States. If U.S. Governors keep the situation amiable it will remain so. However, if resisted by State Governors (and I don't think it will excepting a few} the Commander in Chief can declare the border mission an emergency which will transfer command to AFNORTH which will be under Sec. Def. and JCS. BTW Mattis has already today allocated and released funding for the NG to move in.

There is "Hazardous Duty Pay", which is an extra ~$200/mo (rank-dependent), which is paid out for most overseas deployments. Then there's the Combat Zone Tax Exclusion that covers most of the OEF/OIF countries. Turkey, for instance, doesn't get you there but Bahrain does. :dunno:
I paid in $1200 to the GI bill for 14k in benefits. When I went to the Academy they said I couldn't get the 14k, b/c "free" (tell that to the guy deducting my uniforms, books, computer, etc from my paycheck). So I asked if I could at least get my $1200 back. LOLOLOLOLHAHAHA.

Yeah, I forgot hazardous duty pay. I think we got around $30/mo.

My brother-in-law, actually ex brother-in-law, went to West Point. He actually was kind of a jerk. My ex told me he graduated 2nd in his class. When I worked in St. Louis, one of the guys was a West Point graduate. He looked my ex brother-in-law up and it turns out he actually graduated in the middle of his class. I'll bet he fed my ex a story.

Anyhow, congratulations on your graduation. I know those schools are tough.

CALIFORNIA - LARGEST INSANE ASYLUM IN THE WORLD

Interesting that the LA Times did this. Lou Dobbs reported this on CNN and it cost him his job. The only network we would see this on would be FOX. All the others are staying away from it.

Whether you are a Democrat or Republican, this should be of great interest to you!

Just One State - be sure and read the last part... try for 3 times.

This is only one State... If this doesn't open your eyes, nothing will!

    >From the L.A. Times.

    1. 40% of all workers in LA County (10.2 million people) are working for cash; and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants, working without a green card. (Donald Trump was right)

    2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

    3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.

    4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal, whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

    5. Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals; they are here illegally.

    6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.

    7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most

likely illegal aliens from south of the border.

    8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.

    9. 21 radio stations in LA are Spanish- speaking.

    10. In LA County, 5.1 million people speak English; 3.9 million, speak Spanish. (There are 10.2 million people, in LA County.

(All 10 of the above facts were published in the Los Angeles Times)

Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops, but 29% are on welfare. Over 70% of the United States ' annual population growth, (and over 90% of California , Florida and New York ), results from Immigration. Also, 29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.

We are fools for letting this continue.

    And then there's NANCY PELOSI:

Nancy Pelosi (who was just re-elected and part of this problem) wants a Windfall Tax on Retirement Income. In other words, tax what you have made by investing toward your retirement. This woman is a nut case! You aren't going to believe this…; Windfall Tax on Retirement Income.. Adding a tax to your retirement is simply another way of saying to the American people "you're so dammed stupid that we're going to keep doing this until we drain every cent from you".

Nancy Pelosi wants to put a Windfall Tax on all stock market profits (including Retirement fund, 401K and Mutual Funds)!

Alas, it is true- all to help the 12 Million Illegal Immigrants and other unemployed Minorities!

This woman is frightening. She quotes... "We need to work toward the goal of equalizing income, (didn't Marx say something like this?) in our country; and at the same time limiting the amount the rich can invest. (I'm not rich, are you?)"

When asked how these new tax dollars would be spent, she replied:

"We need to raise the standard of living of our poor, unemployed and minorities. For example, we have an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in our country who need our help along with millions of unemployed minorities. Stock market windfall profits taxes could go a long way to guarantee these people the standard of living they would like to have as Americans."

(Read that quote again and again and let it sink in.) 'Lower your retirement; give it to others who have not worked, as you have, for your money.

This is only one State...If this doesn't open your eyes nothing will and you wonder why Nancy Pelosi wants them to become voters!

You are correct. It's an old hoax. I just looked it up. I wish people would do a little research before posting stuff like that.

I call Bull Shit. Undocumented aliens have a lower crime rate than U.S. citizens. Did I say citizens? I meant Caucasian U.S. citizens. I don't see how the 2nd. largest metropolitan area would be that much of an outlier.

Sadly, I moved about 2 1/2 years ago and have lost touch with him. Great guy, though.

Now, my new next door neighbors are retired school teachers about 80 years old. I know, they make me look young. They are wonderful, even offering to drive me back and forth to the hospital any time of the day or night. God, I love neighbors like that. I'd love to do little chores for them but I'm not physically able to do much of anything except chat with you guys and pester my wife.

Im not sure if its my old age or if I'm just much more careless with things like this. I usually google these kinds of articles for authenticity but trusted and good friend, that he did. He usually does too.
However, I do think we need to better control our immigration with superb balance. And I'm not a believer that anyone who has drivers license or address even though they are not citizens should be able to vote.
Out of fairness to those who have gone through the process and that have become citizens, that makes me proud to be an American!

Hell, I was at the state wrestling championships at Moda (grandson was participating) and was accused of jumping in front several young people, which my wife and I didn't at all.
They were relentless with all sorts of shit aimed at us and we were innocent. I tried to explain in a civil way but they continued to throw shit at us.
I just shook it off, but If I was 30 years younger there would have been potential fist fisticuffs big time!
Many young people have lost respect for the elders and don't give a shit!
