OT Portland Police kill man in homeless shelter

    I’m not saying it was a bad shooting but the police protocol in these situations is not sufficient. The police were able to keep from shooting the guy long enough to get the other people away, to me that says they had time to think and act, not just react.

    Given that I would have liked to see protocol dictate that some percentage of cops required to carry less-lethal guns, like tasers or beanbags. I would have liked one commanding officer to be the only one communicating so there could be a possible deescalation.

    I don’t mind that there were 12 officers in that space, it can be a great way to protect each other and the public but it can also lead to chaos. I don’t know if the cops were individually in the wrong but I think better training could have saved a life here.
