In September 1949, Barbara’s parents were involved in a car accident in which her mother was instantly killed. Since she was pregnant, Barbara was advised not to travel from California to the funeral, and the event left a lasting scar. Three months later, the couple welcomed a second child, a daughter named Pauline Robinson Bush in honor of Barbara’s late mother. In October 1953, the child, nicknamed “Robin,” died of leukemia, leaving Barbara and her husband devastated. It was during this traumatic time that Barbara’s reddish-brown hair turned prematurely white.

For a period of about 20 years she was one of the if not the most powerful woman in the republican party. Never a scandal, always acted with class and dignity. In today's climate of insults and fighting that makes her a hero.

No problem if you don't agree.

I think standing up for gay rights, civil rights, equal rights and country over party makes you a hero. Being quite for a large portion of the shit that *her own son* did, does not make her a hero.

I'm not saying she's a pariah, just let's not get a little crazy here.

She also didn't dress up as a bat and fight crime at night.

But she did raise tens of millions to fight childhood leukemia and provided funds, resources and tools to help teachers identify and educate dyslexic children in all schools across this nation. Both of these causes had nothing to do with her political beliefs.

As far as being quite against her son, we don't know what she said to him privately but she was not the type of person to go to the press to communicate with her son. Just because you don't know what she said to him in private doesn't mean she didn't say anything. Just because she didn't support the causes that you do doesn't mean that she wasn't a caring crusader in her own right.

Your criteria for "heroism" is nothing special, certainly nothing heroic.

Barbara Bush was a huge activist for literacy, while your post is spelled incorrectly.

She was far more than a hero, whatever that is.

A Tip of The Cap to a Real American.

To modify the old Suffragette slogan...

Behind every scummy torturer, there is a woman.

Good riddens to that shitty witch.

Respect, ha ha. Her family kicked tens of thousands of men in the balls. Jeb Bush thought he had the nomination in the bag, but even Republican voters are repulsed by the name Bush.

Her husband did get us in and out of Iraq in 2 months. Not her fault her son didn't learn that lesson.

Also her husband was the last republican to care about the environment and believe that humankind can negatively affect it. He lead the charge internationally to cut the use of CFCs and save our ozone.
